What the Sinn 900 Flieger offers
Sinn’s 900-series documentation describes a large pilot chronograph. The manufacturer lists a self-winding SW500 movement with 25 bearing jewels and 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour. Its stated functions are hours, minutes, subsidiary seconds, a 24-hour second time zone, chronograph, date and an integrated pilot’s bezel. The listed case is satinized stainless steel, 44 mm in diameter, with 22 mm lugs, a screwable winding crown and a screw-fastened nickel-free case back. The front sapphire crystal has anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Sinn specifies pressure resistance up to 20 bar as well as low-pressure resistance. Check the documents for the exact reference, particularly when comparing a specific watch with the family-wide description.
How the chronograph and pilot’s bezel work
According to Sinn’s operating instructions, push-piece A starts and stops the chronograph; push-piece B resets it. The pilot’s bezel is adjusted manually in either direction using the crown at 10 o’clock. Its luminous triangle can be positioned to mark the start or end of a measured interval. The bezel is an elapsed-time aid, while the separately listed second time zone is displayed on a 24-hour basis. The manufacturer lists both functions alongside the date and chronograph; check the relevant instructions for the exact watch if you need to operate or set a particular example.
900 variants: check the name before comparing technologies
The 900 family includes configurations with different treatments and features. Sinn’s English manual covers the 900 PILOT, PILOT S and DIAPAL; its German series documentation identifies 900 FLIEGER and 900 FLIEGER S. The terms should not be treated as proof that every variant shares every technology.

For the PILOT’s drying system, Sinn describes a capsule, EDR seals and protective gas intended to reduce fogging and slow aging of the watch’s inner workings. The manual says the capsule should be replaced when its indicator reaches dark-blue saturation. Sinn also records that the 900 PILOT won the 2010 “Goldene Unruh”; this is a historical award, not a measure of current rankings or market performance. Sinn Series 900 operating instructions
Fit and strap compatibility
At 44 mm across with 22 mm lugs, the 900 is a substantial watch. Consider how the case sits on your wrist and whether you are comfortable with its dimensions before choosing by specifications alone. A 22 mm strap is the natural search width, but width alone does not confirm fit: check the exact attachment and end fit for the case and whether the watch uses a strap or bracelet.

Sinn’s manual gives bracelet instructions for adding or removing links with link screws. For the silicone strap, it describes releasing it at the clasp and shortening it gradually and symmetrically. Water resistance and care, especially on a used watch
Sinn specifies pressure resistance up to 20 bar, but that figure is not a guarantee about the condition of an individual watch today. The manufacturer says seals age through use and recommends a water-resistance check at least annually. Its manual also advises rinsing the watch with tap water after contact with seawater or chemicals, and warns that shocks and vibration can affect water resistance and increase movement wear. For a pre-owned example, ask for a recent water-resistance test and service history. A specification for a new or originally equipped watch does not establish that an older watch remains safe to expose to water.
