The Sinn 936 is an automatic chronograph built around a distinctive dial: its two-subdial layout pairs running seconds at 9 o’clock with a chronograph minute counter at 3 o’clock that records a full 60 minutes in one revolution. Sinn’s documentation explains the design and specifications; it does not establish independent hands-on testing, so this overview focuses on documented features rather than wrist-time impressions.
How the Sinn 936 chronograph display works
The 936 uses Sinn’s SZ05 automatic movement and a bi-compax layout. The subdial at 3 o’clock counts chronograph minutes, while the one at 9 o’clock shows running seconds. A central extended red hand indicates chronograph seconds. Sinn’s 2025–2026 catalogue and 936 brochure document this arrangement.
Why the minute counter runs to 60
Many chronographs use a 30-minute counter, so an elapsed time longer than 30 minutes requires keeping track of another revolution. Sinn gives the 936’s 60-minute counter as a way to read a full hour directly. The brochure says: “The advantage of this is that it does away with the necessity of adding stopwatch minutes, as is required with conventional 30-second stopwatch minute displays.” This is Sinn’s stated rationale for the design, not an independent comparative legibility test.
Dial and case details
Sinn describes the hour and minute hands as rhodium-coated, matt-brushed and skeletonized, with luminous hands and indices. The extended chronograph-seconds hand is red. Sinn also notes fine grooves in the counter rings, which it says create an iridescent effect. These are manufacturer descriptions of the design.

The 2025–2026 catalogue lists a 43 mm stainless-steel case with TEGIMENT treatment, a sapphire crystal, magnetic-field protection up to 100 mT (80,000 A/m), 10 bar water resistance and low-pressure resistance. The case back is nickel-free and does not have TEGIMENT treatment; the treatment claim should not be read as applying to every exterior surface. The catalogue also records the 936 as awarded the Red Dot Award 2020.
Movement and configuration-specific measurements
A Sinn Depot Japan listing for a leather-strap configuration specifies a 15 mm thickness, 22 mm strap width and 111 g weight excluding the strap. The same listing gives the SZ05 automatic movement as having 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and approximately 46 hours of power reserve. These figures are listing-specific; verify them against the exact reference being considered.

The catalogue depicts textile, silicone and steel-bracelet configurations, while Sinn’s brochure and catalogue material also identify a leather-strap configuration. The sources do not establish which options are currently in stock in a particular market. Check the reference and seller’s listing before assuming a particular strap or bracelet is available or that a strap will fit.
Standard 936 versus the 936 S

What to compare before choosing a chronograph
- Elapsed-time display: The 936’s 60-minute counter registers an hour in one revolution; with a conventional 30-minute counter, the wearer must account for another revolution for times beyond 30 minutes.
- Dial arrangement: The 936 places chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock and running seconds at 9 o’clock.
- Case and protection: Compare diameter, thickness for the exact reference, surface treatment, magnetic protection and water resistance rather than relying on a general impression of ruggedness.
- Fit and configuration: Check the specific strap or bracelet, its width and the watch’s dimensions. The 22 mm width and 15 mm thickness above come from a particular leather-strap listing.
