What are the five Squale 1521 models?
The five-watch count includes two colorways of the COSC model. Fratello Watches’ May 2023 roundup describes the specifications and launch-era configurations; the model names and prices below reflect that report.

Prices are historical launch figures reported by Fratello Watches in 2023; current pricing and availability are not established here. The COSC watches were reported with a black Tropic-style rubber strap and an additional vegetable-tanned brown leather strap. The Bronze came with a blue nylon strap with bronze hardware plus an additional blue leather strap. Green Ray and Full White prices varied by the strap or bracelet configuration shown.
What changed on the 1521 COSC?
Both black and blue versions use a COSC-certified version of the Sellita SW200-1. Their visible updates include applied indices and an aluminum bezel insert that is fully lumed. The case treatment also differs from the familiar all-polished finish: the 2023 models use brushed surfaces with broad polished chamfers. Fratello reported each color at CHF 1,475 at launch, with both a black Tropic-style rubber strap and a brown vegetable-tanned leather strap included.

What is the Green Ray dial?
The Green Ray’s dial fades from bright green at the center to a darker edge. Squale describes it as the 1521 collection’s first green-to-black gradient. Fratello reported a 42 × 48 × 12.5 mm steel case, Sellita SW200-1 movement, sapphire crystal, date at three o’clock, crown at four, and 500 m water resistance. Its 2023 launch prices were CHF 955 on green leather and CHF 994 on rubber.
How is the Militaire Full White different?
The Full White has a no-date dial designed to glow across its surface using BGW9 Super-LumiNova. Its 12, 3, 6 and 9 markers are orange, and the aluminum bezel insert is lumed; Squale says the insert’s indicators are entirely Super-LumiNova. Fratello reported launch prices of CHF 1,195 on rubber and CHF 1,250 on mesh.

What sets the 1521 Bronze apart?
The Bronze pairs a bronze case with a blue sunburst dial and orange minute hand. The crown and date are positioned at two o’clock. Fratello reported a 14 mm thickness, rounded applied indices, and a brushed ceramic bezel insert with luminous markings. Its launch package included a blue nylon strap with bronze hardware and an additional blue leather strap; the reported 2023 launch price was CHF 1,475.

Squale’s official history dates the collection’s introduction to the mid-1970s and says the watch evolved from the Squale Master case, with reduced thickness and resistance to 50 atmospheres. The company gives the original case thickness as approximately 12 mm. It recalls that the early bezel had 60 clicks before later versions moved to 120.

Squale describes the origin this way: “The first model of the iconic 1521 collection was introduced in the mid-70s when Squale set out to create an extremely high-performing watch with smaller dimensions to keep up with the times.” This is the brand’s statement on its official 1521 history page, not a quotation attributed to a named individual.
The five models belong to a longer sequence of 1521 variations, including different dial colors, wave embossing and luminous treatments. Later developments should not be confused with the 2023 launch: Squale’s press archive dates a bracelet-and-rubber-strap update to 23 May 2024, and describes a separate 2024 Marina Militare 1521 as a 500-piece limited edition.
