Fratello reports an ETA C01.211 automatic mechanical chronograph, a 46-hour power reserve, a six-hour chronograph and a 42 mm case for this historical family. Because the line included five designs, check the exact reference and its condition before judging fit or value.
Which Swatch automatic chronograph is this?
“Swatch Automatic Chrono” is ambiguous. The best-supported match is the 2009 Swatch Irony Automatic Chronograph family. Fratello’s account identifies the white SVGK403 as one example among five launch models, which varied in design, dial color and strap material. Those details should not be treated as universal specifications for every reference. Fratello’s history and model report is the secondary source for this family.
Check a listing’s reference and movement description rather than relying on “Irony Chrono” alone. Swatch’s 2013 announcement covers a separate nine-model Irony Chrono collection, reporting steel construction and a 43 mm case but not identifying those watches as automatic. The Swatch Group announcement does not establish that the collection uses the automatic movement discussed here.
Movement and reported specifications
For the 2009 Automatic Chronograph family, Fratello reports the ETA C01.211 automatic mechanical chronograph. The article describes it as based on the Lemania 5100 design; “based on” does not mean the two calibers are identical. Its reported figures are historical specifications, not current Swatch specifications or independently measured performance.

Don’t confuse it with SISTEM51
SISTEM51 is a different Swatch automatic movement. Swatch describes that movement as having 51 components, a 90-hour power reserve and a typical tolerance of -5/+15 seconds per day. Those figures belong to SISTEM51, not the C01.211 chronograph. Swatch’s SISTEM51 page presents its current specifications.
A 2013 Swatch Group announcement gives a different accuracy figure for SISTEM51—+/-10 seconds per day. That is a historical claim about SISTEM51, not the Automatic Chronograph reviewed here. The 2013 announcement should not be used to infer the C01.211’s accuracy.

How it wears and what to verify
The reported 42 mm diameter makes the watch worth measuring against your preferences, but diameter alone cannot tell you how a particular example will sit on your wrist. The five-model family used differing designs and strap materials, so inspect photographs and identify the exact reference instead of assuming the SVGK403’s appearance applies across the range.
For a pre-owned watch, request clear reference identification and photographs of the dial, case, crystal, clasp and movement or case markings where available. Ask the seller to confirm whether the automatic movement runs and whether the chronograph starts, stops and resets correctly. Also request any available timekeeping observations, documentation and box details, and understand the return terms before purchase.

Operating the chronograph
Swatch’s official chronograph manual includes a section headed “CHRONO AUTOMATIC” and adjustment instructions. Use the manual’s guidance for operation rather than assuming every Swatch chronograph has identical controls. It explains operation; it does not establish repair cost, service availability or parts availability for a particular older reference. Swatch’s user-manual page provides the official manual resource.

The Irony Automatic Chronograph is a historically specific mechanical Swatch, not a generic label for any Irony Chrono and not a SISTEM51. The most useful buying decision rests on the exact reference, whether the seller can demonstrate the functions, the watch’s physical condition and the protections offered by the transaction. Current used-market pricing, stock and serviceability vary by listing and were not established by the cited sources, so evaluate those points directly with the seller.
