Syncing a Samsung Galaxy Watch with an iPhone: Compatible Models, Limits, and Setup

Most Galaxy Watch4-and-newer models are Android-only. Learn which older Samsung watches can pair with iPhone, how to set them up, and why Bluetooth or LTE does not solve modern compatibility limits.

Most Samsung Galaxy Watches released since 2021 do not pair normally with an iPhone. Samsung lists the Galaxy Watch4 series and newer Wear OS models—including Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch FE and Watch Ultra—as incompatible with iOS because they rely on Google Play services. Selected older Tizen-era watches can connect, but with fewer features and no guarantee of lasting support.

If you own an iPhone, identify the exact watch model before buying or troubleshooting. A watch appearing in Bluetooth settings is not proof that Samsung’s app, health synchronization, notifications and firmware management will work.

The short answer

Samsung wearable iPhone status What to know
Galaxy Watch (2018) Yes, legacy support Uses Samsung’s older iOS-compatible ecosystem; features are reduced.
Galaxy Watch Active Yes, legacy support Samsung states a baseline of iPhone 5 or later and iOS 9 or later for listed legacy devices.
Galaxy Watch Active2 Yes, legacy support Some advanced health functions require a Galaxy phone.
Galaxy Watch3 Regional documentation differs Samsung UK lists it as compatible; the U.S. page does not present the list identically. Verify the exact model and current app support.
Gear Live, Gear S2, Gear Sport, Gear S3 Yes, legacy support Very old hardware and software; expect limited app and battery support.
Gear Fit2 and Gear Fit2 Pro Yes, legacy support Fitness-band functionality rather than full smartwatch integration.
Galaxy Watch4 / Watch4 Classic No Wear OS and Google Play services are not supported on iPhone.
Galaxy Watch5 / Watch5 Pro No Android-only through Samsung’s supported setup.
Galaxy Watch6 / Watch6 Classic No Android-only.
Galaxy Watch FE No Samsung lists it as incompatible with iOS.
Galaxy Watch7 No Samsung lists it as incompatible with iOS.
Galaxy Watch Ultra No Samsung lists it as incompatible with iOS.
Galaxy Watch8 / Watch8 Classic Treat as no unless Samsung publishes an exception Current Wear OS generation; Samsung’s LTE documentation requires initial pairing with an eligible Android phone.

See Samsung’s model-by-model U.S. list at Samsung support and the regional list at Samsung UK support.

Why Watch4 and newer models do not sync with iPhone

Galaxy Watch4 and later watches moved from Samsung’s Tizen platform to Wear OS. Samsung says these watches depend on Google Play services, which iOS does not support: Samsung’s compatibility explanation. This blocks the supported Galaxy Wearable setup and the services used for accounts, apps, health functions, notifications and updates.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

There is no supported bypass. Installing an old Android package, pairing only through Bluetooth or using an unofficial workaround does not create normal synchronization. Bluetooth visibility, supported pairing and data synchronization are separate things:

  • Bluetooth visibility: the iPhone can detect a radio signal or accessory.
  • Supported pairing: Samsung’s iPhone app completes setup and manages the watch.
  • Synchronization: notifications, settings, accounts, apps, firmware and health data work as designed.

Only the second and third outcomes amount to iPhone compatibility.

What “compatible” means for an older Galaxy Watch

A legacy watch may provide Bluetooth pairing, notifications, activity and workout records, heart-rate readings, watch-face management, selected calls or call alerts, and some Samsung Health synchronization. The exact result depends on the model, firmware, iPhone version, Samsung app availability and region.

It is not an Apple Watch equivalent. Older iOS connections commonly have fewer apps and watch faces, less control over notifications and replies, weaker health integration, and a greater risk that an iOS or Samsung app update breaks a feature. Sensor data displayed on the watch also does not automatically mean it will reach Samsung Health or Apple Health.

How to pair an older compatible watch with an iPhone

  1. Identify the exact model. Check the watch’s About screen, case markings, packaging or Samsung model number. “Galaxy Watch” alone is not precise enough.
  2. Check Samsung’s current compatibility list. Do not rely on a used seller’s claim that a Watch4 or newer “works with iPhone.”
  3. Update the iPhone and install the Samsung wearable app offered for that model from the App Store. Samsung confirms that compatible iPhone users need the relevant app: Samsung support. App names and availability can differ by model and may change on newer iOS releases.
  4. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Keep the charged watch beside the iPhone during setup.
  5. Open the Samsung app, select the watch and approve the matching code shown on both devices.
  6. Grant requested permissions, including Bluetooth, notifications, contacts, calendar and health access where offered.
  7. Sign in to a Samsung account if the app requests it.
  8. Let setup and firmware installation finish. Keep the watch nearby and on its charger during an update.
  9. Test the functions you actually need: notifications, calls, activity sync, heart rate and app connectivity. A completed pairing screen does not prove that every feature works.

Samsung states a baseline of iPhone 5 or later and iOS 9 or later for several legacy models, but that historical baseline is not a promise that every old app remains stable on current iOS.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

What works, and what does not?

Function Older iOS-compatible models Important limitation
Bluetooth pairing Generally available Requires the correct Samsung app and supported model.
Notifications Usually available Controls and interactive actions are more limited than on Apple Watch.
Message replies Model- and app-dependent Do not assume full reply support.
Calls and contacts Model- and configuration-dependent Some functions may provide alerts rather than complete calling control.
Workouts, steps and heart rate Often available Sync path and supported metrics vary by model and app version.
Sleep data Model-dependent Phone app and permissions are required for synchronization.
ECG and blood pressure Not through iPhone-only setup Samsung says Samsung Health Monitor requires a Samsung Galaxy phone: U.S. support and UK support.
Samsung Health Partial or model-dependent Do not assume all watch data transfers to the iPhone app.
Apple Health Not guaranteed Verify the exact model, Samsung app, permissions and iOS release before purchase.
Apps and watch faces Reduced selection Legacy iOS support does not provide the modern Wear OS catalog.
Payments Model- and region-dependent Bank, country and platform support can restrict availability.
Music and offline functions Some local playback or downloads may work Phone-dependent services may not.
LTE Does not remove iPhone limitations Carrier and model support still apply.

If the watch was paired with Android before

A watch tied to an Android phone may need to be transferred or erased before it can use a different phone ecosystem. First retrieve or sync any data still available from the old phone, then:

  1. Disconnect or unpair the watch in Samsung’s wearable app on the old Android phone.
  2. Use the watch’s model-specific reset or “connect to new phone” option.
  3. If transfer fails, perform a factory reset.
  4. Restart the iPhone, reinstall the correct Samsung app and repeat setup.

A reset can erase watch-local settings, downloaded content and unsynced data. Menu wording differs by model and firmware, so do not assume one universal path.

Troubleshooting pairing and syncing

Wrong model or wrong app

Recheck the model number against Samsung’s compatibility page. A Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch FE or Ultra will not become compatible by selecting a different app. Legacy models may each use a particular Samsung app listing.

Bluetooth sees the watch, but setup does not finish

Forget the watch in iPhone Bluetooth settings, restart both devices, open the Samsung app and pair from inside the app. Remove other nearby Bluetooth connections while testing.

The watch is still linked to Android

Unpair it from the old phone or reset it as described above. Confirm that important data has been synchronized before erasing.

iPhone 6S or 6S Plus connection instability

Samsung warns that iPhone 6S and 6S Plus devices running iOS 10 or later may have unstable connections. Its suggested remedy is to unpair other Bluetooth devices, toggle Bluetooth off and on, and reconnect: Samsung support.

Notifications or health data are missing

Recheck notification and health permissions, keep the Samsung app allowed to run, and test whether the data is only stored locally on the watch. ECG and blood pressure will not work through an iPhone-only setup because Samsung Health Monitor requires a Galaxy phone.

The app is unavailable or stops working after an update

Legacy support is not a permanent guarantee. Check the App Store listing and Samsung’s current regional documentation before buying or resetting an old watch. Region, carrier and firmware differences can change the result.

Does LTE solve the iPhone problem?

No. LTE can let a supported watch call, message, stream or track a workout away from the phone, but it does not replace the required phone ecosystem. Samsung says standalone LTE use requires initial pairing with an eligible Android smartphone and a separate qualifying wireless plan: Samsung’s July 2026 LTE guidance.

Activation also depends on the carrier, country and plan. Buying an LTE Watch7, Watch8, Watch8 Classic or Ultra therefore does not make it an iPhone-compatible watch.

Can an older watch work without the iPhone?

Some on-watch functions—timekeeping, alarms, workouts, sensors, downloaded music and other local features—may continue without the phone. Phone-dependent notifications, account services and synchronization will not update normally while the iPhone is absent. That is standalone use, not proof of iPhone compatibility.

Should an iPhone owner buy a used Samsung watch?

It can make sense when

  • The price is very low and the exact model is on Samsung’s iOS-compatible list.
  • You mainly want basic fitness tracking and notifications.
  • You accept limited health, app and Apple Health integration.
  • The seller can demonstrate a resettable watch and provide battery-condition information.

Avoid it when

  • You want dependable long-term iOS support, modern apps or advanced Samsung features.
  • ECG, blood pressure, sleep-apnea detection or other Samsung Health Monitor functions matter.
  • You expect full Apple Health integration, reliable message replies or modern LTE services.
  • The seller cannot identify the exact model, or the watch is a Watch4 or newer.

Legacy models are now old enough that battery degradation, unsupported firmware, unavailable replacement parts, account locks and seller mislabeling are practical risks. Ask for the model number and confirmation that the watch has been reset before paying.

Current Samsung pricing reinforces the buying decision

Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet lists the Watch7 at $249.99–$279.99 for Bluetooth and $299.99–$329.99 for LTE; Watch8 at $349.99–$379.99 Bluetooth and $399.99–$429.99 LTE; Watch8 Classic at $499.99 Bluetooth and $549.99 LTE; and Watch Ultra at $649.99. These are MSRPs subject to change, not guaranteed sale prices: Samsung MSRP PDF. An iPhone owner should not spend those amounts expecting normal pairing.

Fitbit

Fitbit can suit straightforward activity, sleep and wellness tracking. Smartwatch functions and subscription requirements differ substantially by model; check Fitbit’s current products.

Other Wear OS watches

Android compatibility does not automatically mean iPhone compatibility. Confirm the manufacturer’s current iOS app and feature support before buying.

Final buying rule

For an iPhone, choose Apple Watch for deep integration, or select a Garmin or Fitbit after checking the exact features you need. Buy an older Tizen Galaxy Watch only when its low price and basic functions justify legacy software. Do not buy a Galaxy Watch4 or newer—including Watch7, Watch FE, Ultra or the current Watch8 family—expecting supported iPhone synchronization.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I connect a Galaxy Watch7 to an iPhone through Bluetooth?

An iPhone may detect the watch, but Samsung does not support normal pairing and synchronization for Galaxy Watch7. Bluetooth visibility does not provide Galaxy Wearable setup, health syncing or firmware management.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use Galaxy Watch LTE without an iPhone?

LTE does not remove the Android requirement. Samsung says supported LTE watches need initial pairing with an eligible Android phone, carrier activation and a qualifying plan.

Can Samsung Health automatically sync to Apple Health?

Do not assume it will. The result depends on the exact legacy watch, Samsung app, permissions and iOS version; verify those details before buying.

Does Galaxy Watch3 work with iPhone?

Samsung UK lists Galaxy Watch3 as compatible, while Samsung’s U.S. documentation presents the list differently. Verify the exact regional app and model support before purchase.
