What is Tad Kozh?
Tad Kozh describes itself as an initiative for métiers d’art, watchmaking heritage, and the next generation of independent watchmakers. Its model has two connected strands: helping young watchmakers develop through training, equipment, and mentorship, and creating collaborative watches that put specialist craft techniques at the center.
The founders, Alix and Baudouin Van Es, also created the Tourbillon Watch media platform in 2019. Tad Kozh launched in 2026. The official mission page says “Tad Kozh” means “grand-father” in Breton and connects the name to Baudouin Van Es’s Breton roots; it does not offer a more detailed account of how the name was chosen. What is the Tad Kozh New Talent Award?
The award is intended to help young watchmakers pursue independent work. Tad Kozh’s official homepage describes support for two young watchmakers every year through mentorship, access to equipment, and hands-on training. The specific inaugural application and selection process below comes from the launch report published by Monochrome Watches on 4 March 2026, rather than a current award-results notice.

Who could apply for the inaugural award?
According to Monochrome Watches, applicants were to be watchmaking diploma holders aged 18 to 35. They were asked to present a professional project and explain which finishing or machining techniques they wanted to develop in future work. The announced deadline was 15 July 2026, which has passed. The official pages reviewed do not establish whether the inaugural winners have been announced or when applications might next open.
How was selection meant to work?
The March 2026 report described an initial selection in July, followed by a one-day practical examination in Switzerland for finalists in September. Each finalist was to machine and finish a component, with the jury assessing technical quality and execution. Those dates and steps describe the announced inaugural process; they do not confirm that each stage took place.

What support was announced?
The reported package included a 70 lathe, a Hauser-type jig borer, training, and mentorship. Luc Monnet was named to provide machine training, while Jean-François Mojon and Pietro Tomajer were named as technical and business mentors for 2026. Marc-André Deschoux was named jury chair, alongside Alexandre Ghotbi, Roy Davidoff, Guillaume Tetu, Hervé Schlüchter, Luc Monnet, and Emilien Reverchon. What are the métiers d’art collaborations?
Métiers d’art means artistic crafts—in watchmaking, specialist decorative techniques and handwork applied to a watch. Tad Kozh frames each collaboration as an encounter between a maison, an artisan, and a gesture. Its stated approach is to invite a maison to explore a métier d’art it has not previously worked with, giving the artisan a creative role rather than treating the craft as decoration added after the design is settled.

In the March 2026 launch report, the founders described the artisan as a co-creator who studies a brand’s identity and proposes creative directions. The intended result, they said, is a four-handed collaboration in which creative input and technical skill meet on equal terms. What Tad Kozh watches are planned?
The official Creative Encounters page currently lists two techniques for a reveal in Fall 2026 and a feather collaboration for the first part of 2027. It does not specify exact reveal days, watch prices, partner maisons, or purchase availability.

The timing reflects the official page accessed on 7 October 2026. It differs from the March launch report, which had projected a micro-mosaic watch before summer 2026 and a cloisonné-enamel watch for September at Geneva Watch Days 2026; the later official schedule is the more current indication of plans.

Monochrome Watches reported at launch that Tad Kozh planned two watches per year, with five to ten examples in each edition and a subscription process. The proceeds were described as funding the New Talent Award. These are launch-era plans: the current official page reviewed does not reconfirm the annual quantity, edition sizes, subscription terms, or sales arrangements.

What is confirmed about Tad Kozh now?
The initiative’s two-part purpose is clear: develop emerging watchmakers and create artisan-led collaborations intended to support that development. The official site’s current collaboration schedule points to Fall 2026 reveals for cloisonné enamel and micro-mosaïque, followed by feathers in the first part of 2027. The inaugural award deadline has passed, but no result or subsequent deadline is established by the official pages reviewed.
