How the two collaborations differ
Both put a historic watch design into a colorful collaboration, but they start from different ideas. TAG Heuer and Kith revisited the Formula 1 Series 1, launched in 1986. Omega and Swatch created MoonSwatch as a Bioceramic interpretation of Omega’s Speedmaster Moonwatch.

A specific piece of TAG Heuer history
TAG Heuer says the original Formula 1 Series 1 was the first watch to carry the TAG Heuer name and that more than three million were produced. For the 2024 collaboration, the brands sought the original supplier and used the 1986 mold. The revived design retains details including the hour hand, the triangle at 12, alternating shield and dot indices, and the contrasting minuterie. TAG Heuer describes ten limited-edition models with co-branding on the dial, strap, and caseback; the dials also carry Kith’s “Just Us” motto. Launch specifications and scarcity
WIRED’s May 2024 launch report gives the Kith watches 35 mm cases, quartz movements, 200-meter water resistance, sapphire crystals, and rubber straps. It reports five Arnite and five steel variants, with edition sizes varying by model and just under 5,000 watches across the ten editions. Treat those as launch-era details: check the exact reference rather than assuming every finish or channel was the same.

Launch access also varied by reference and retailer. Kith Europe’s collection page currently displays “No Products Found,” which describes that page’s catalog display, not the entire market or resale availability. Check the Kith collection page for its current display, then verify any listing’s reference and condition independently.
What you get with MoonSwatch
A collection rather than one fixed model
MoonSwatch translates Speedmaster cues into Swatch’s Bioceramic collection. Its range has expanded beyond the original eleven planet-themed watches, so the exact reference matters: case colors, functions, and release status differ. The Swatch catalog displayed original mission models at $285, Moonphase variants at $320, Earthphase at $340, and Mission to the Moon 1969 at $570 when accessed October 8, 2026. These are cataloged original retail prices, not guaranteed current offers or resale values; prices and stock can vary by region. Swatch’s MoonSwatch collection catalog lists the models and current page-level availability.

Moonphase is a distinct variant
Swatch Group described Mission to the Moonphase as a non-limited addition in March 2024. It pairs a chronograph with a moonphase complication and places Snoopy on the moonphase disc. The model also has an asymmetrical case, a tachymeter bezel with a dot over 90, Speedmaster-style subdials, and a VELCRO strap. Swatch Group says its Bioceramic is made from two-thirds ceramic and one-third biosourced castor-oil material. Those details apply to the Moonphase description, not automatically to every MoonSwatch. Choose the Kith if its design and provenance matter most
- You want the compact 35 mm proportions and recognizable 1986 Formula 1 look.
- You value the limited-edition collaboration and its Kith co-branding enough to justify its higher launch price—and potentially a higher secondary-market price.
- You have identified the precise reference and confirmed its condition, included parts, and seller terms.
Choose MoonSwatch if variety and the lower original price are priorities
- You want to choose among a wider and expanding set of colors and model-specific features.
- You prefer the Speedmaster-inspired design and a lower original retail price on many models.
- You are selecting for a specific function, such as the Moonphase, rather than assuming every model has the same complication.
Neither is a like-for-like substitute for the other in materials, movement, finishing, or design brief. The Kith collaboration emphasizes the revival of a particular TAG Heuer model; MoonSwatch offers multiple takes on Speedmaster design through Swatch. The better purchase depends on which proposition you want and the price of the exact watch available to you—not simply the collaboration names.

What to check before paying
- Match the reference. Compare the listing’s reference number with the brand’s model information. Kith models differ in case material, color, edition size, and retail channel; MoonSwatch models differ in functions and price.
- Separate launch price from today’s offer. The $1,350 Kith figure is WIRED’s May 2024 launch price. Swatch’s listed prices are original retail prices shown in its catalog, not a promise of stock at those amounts. Compare the seller’s current asking price with the exact model and market.
- Confirm what is included and the watch’s condition. For a limited or sold-out model, ask for clear photos, documentation, and an account of wear or repairs. Do not infer authenticity or condition from a collaboration name alone.
- Check strap compatibility before ordering replacements. The Moonphase is described with a VELCRO strap, but that does not establish that a third-party strap fits every MoonSwatch. Confirm compatibility with the exact reference and case before buying.
