Tomas Rosputinsky’s December 10, 2020 Fratello feature selects eight vintage Tissot watches for their varied designs, movements, and histories. It is a personal editorial selection—not a ranked test or a current buying guide. The list ranges from early chronographs to a world-time watch, an experimental plastic-cased design, and a quartz watch with a stone case.
The eight vintage Tissot watches
1. Tissot T12 Chronograph
The T12 stands out for its large, rounded case and hidden lugs. Rosputinsky highlights the chronograph version’s Lemania 873 movement, red subdial hands, diamond-shaped central chronograph hand, and original Gay Frères bracelet. His 2020 article reported dealer prices around €1,000, with the possibility of finding one for less at auction. That figure is a historical snapshot, not a current valuation.

2. Tissot Mediostat
This unusual monopusher chronograph has a central chronograph hand that runs continuously. The pusher can pause or reset it, depending on how it is operated. The feature dates the model to around 1942 and identifies its movement as Tissot caliber 27.53. Rosputinsky reported that a worn example had sold at auction for more than €1,000; that is one historical result, not a guide to present prices.
3. Tissot Navigator 8I7
The Navigator 8I7 combines a 40 mm case with military-style design and, according to the feature, a Lemania caliber 872. Its visual details include a “T-boxed” logo and aged lume. Rosputinsky wrote in 2020 that a decent example could cost more than €7,000 at the time. The article does not establish a current market price.

4. Tissot 6216 family
The feature traces the stainless-steel, water-resistant 6216 sports chronograph family to around 1943. Its three-subdial layout is powered, as reported in the article, by caliber C27.41H, which Rosputinsky compares with the CH27 C12/Omega 321 movement family. As a historical auction example, he cites a black 6216-4 that sold for €4,000 before fees. This single result should not be read as a current or typical valuation.
5. Tissot 33.3 chronograph
The 33.3 name comes from the Lemania 15CH movement, which the feature says was known as caliber 33.3 at Tissot and Omega in the 1930s. Its chronograph controls are integrated into the crown, a distinctive arrangement for operating the complication.
6. Tissot Navigator World Time Ref. 4002
Introduced in 1953, Tissot’s centenary year, the Navigator World Time Ref. 4002 displays time around the world using a rotating central 24-hour disc. The disc is read against the fixed bezel, while conventional hour and minute hands show the local time. Rosputinsky identifies its movement as the bumper automatic caliber 28.5N-21T.

7. Tissot Astrolon Idea 2001
The Astrolon arrived in 1971. Its movement was made largely from molded, self-lubricating plastic, alongside some metal components. In Rosputinsky’s selection, the Idea 2001 represents an experimental approach to watchmaking and a design likely to prompt conversation.

The RockWatch is a quartz watch with a case carved from stone. Rosputinsky places it in the context of a difficult period for Tissot and recalls members of his own family wearing one. That is personal testimony rather than a general assessment of the watch or its appeal.
What connects the selection—and what does not
These eight watches are not a like-for-like comparison. They span multiple decades and different kinds of watchmaking: several chronographs, a world-time complication, a largely plastic experimental movement, and a stone-cased quartz watch. The feature associates several chronographs with Lemania movements, but its model and caliber descriptions should be understood as claims made in that article, not as independently verified archival findings.
Rank #3
- Case Size: 40.00 millimeter; Band Width: 12 millimeter; Case Thickness: 10.40 millimeter
- Swiss quartz movement, 316L stainless steel case, Index dial type, date
- Stainless steel bracelet, butterfly clasp with push-buttons closure
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 meter / 330 feet): Suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
The list is best read as a tour of Tissot’s varied designs and technical experiments, rather than as a ranking or a shortlist of equivalent watches. A chronograph’s appeal and service needs differ from those of a world-time watch or a quartz RockWatch.

Rosputinsky’s article was published on December 10, 2020, and its quoted prices and auction examples are dated observations. It supplies no current comparable sales or condition-adjusted valuations, so those figures cannot establish what a watch is worth now.

Quick Recap
- Reference and movement: Confirm that the case, dial, and movement correspond to the model being offered; ask for clear movement photographs and supporting documentation where available.
- Condition: Examine the dial, hands, case, and signs of moisture or refinishing. A description such as “decent” is not a substitute for a detailed condition report.
- Originality: Check whether the bracelet and other visible parts are original to that watch, rather than assuming that a feature of one example applies to every example.
- Service history: Ask when the watch was last serviced and whether its chronograph or other complication functions correctly. Vintage-watch servicing can materially affect the cost of ownership.
- Total cost: Consider the purchase price together with any needed repair or service, shipping, and applicable fees. Compare recent, dated sales of the same reference and similar condition rather than relying on a single older result.
