The Seiko SLA041 is a 2020, 55th-anniversary re-creation of Seiko’s 1975 Professional Diver’s 600m, updated with a manufacturer-rated 1,000m saturation-diving specification. It is a substantial watch on paper: Seiko lists a 52.4mm diameter, 53.5mm lug-to-lug length, 17.2mm thickness and 164g weight. Those figures—and the watch’s 1975 lineage—are more useful starting points for judging it than calling it “hands-on”: the available evidence here is Seiko’s documentation, not a record of wearing or testing the watch.
What is the Seiko SLA041?
The SLA041, also identified as SLA041J1, is a Prospex Sea 55th Anniversary Limited Edition. Seiko announced it in 2020 as a “1975 Professional Diver’s 600m Re-creation,” with an edition of 1,100 pieces. The original 1975 model was an air diver’s watch; Seiko presents the SLA041 as an updated version intended for saturation diving.
The 1975 reference matters because Seiko describes the original as the world’s first titanium-cased diver’s watch. The modern watch preserves that lineage while changing the stated mission: Seiko says the re-creation uses a one-piece case structure and rates it to 1,000m for saturation diving. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent test result.
How big is the Seiko SLA041?
By its published measurements, the SLA041 is large and thick. Seiko’s official product page lists a 52.4mm case diameter, 53.5mm lug-to-lug length and 17.2mm thickness, with a weight of 164g. These dimensions give a more concrete sense of scale than the “Tuna” nickname alone. They do not establish how the watch will fit a particular wrist: wrist shape, strap adjustment and personal preference all matter, and no firsthand fit assessment is available here.

The lug distance is 22mm. Seiko lists a silicone band, but that measurement by itself does not confirm that any particular aftermarket strap will fit or suit the watch.

Is the SLA041 a saturation diver?
Seiko specifies the SLA041 for “1000m / 3300ft for saturation diving” and describes its one-piece case structure as part of the updated design. The official page also gives a magnetic-resistance rating of 40,000 A/m. These figures identify what Seiko claims for the watch; the source material does not include independent validation of either rating.
How does the SLA041 differ from the 1975 Seiko Tuna?
The core difference established by Seiko’s history and specifications is the shift from the original’s air-diving role to a modern re-creation rated for saturation diving. Seiko identifies the 1975 watch as the Professional Diver’s 600m and the SLA041 as its 55th-anniversary re-creation, but the available documentation does not provide a complete side-by-side specification comparison with the original. It is therefore more precise to describe the SLA041 as a historically linked update than to claim exact feature-by-feature fidelity.
