What is the Aquastar 63 diver?
The Aquastar 63 is a vintage diver-watch model, but the Aquastar pages available here do not supply a model-specific specification sheet or archival account. Its launch year, movement, case dimensions and construction, bezel operation, and water-resistance rating therefore cannot be stated confidently from these sources.
That distinction matters for collectors: specifications from another Aquastar watch cannot fill those gaps. In particular, the modern Model 60 is a separate product family, and its re-edition specifications are not evidence about the Aquastar 63.

The title’s “iconic case” wording expresses a reputation or design claim, but the available material does not document why the 63’s case is considered iconic. Did Aquastar invent this diver case?
Aquastar’s own heritage account records several earlier innovations, but it does not connect those patents directly to the 63’s case:
- Aquastar says its predecessor, JeanRichard S.A., filed a patent on 30 December 1959 for a wrist-mounted instrument combining a watch, bathymeter, compass, and thermometer. The account names Frédéric Robert as inventor of record. Aquastar’s heritage account.
- The company dates a patent for an inside-the-case rotating bezel to 13 February 1962. It says the workshop filed it after registering as Aquastar S.A. and names Jaques Ochsenbein and Raoul-H. Erard as inventors. Aquastar’s heritage account.
- Aquastar attributes a 1964 no-decompression dive-bezel patent to Marc Jasinski. This is the brand’s historical account; the material available here does not independently corroborate its priority claim. Aquastar’s heritage account.
These claims establish that Aquastar presents its early history as a sequence of dive-instrument and bezel innovations. They do not establish that the Aquastar 63 originated a particular case, nor do they settle whether another maker used a comparable design first.

How does the Aquastar 63 compare with later Aquastar divers?
Aquastar dates the Benthos 500 to 1970 and says it was rated and tested to 500 metres. The brand also says it returned to mechanical dive watches in 2020 with the Deepstar 2020 and moved production to Bienne. Its current range includes Deepstar, Benthos, Model 60, and Airstar families. These are useful markers in the company’s history, not substitutes for missing 63 specifications. Aquastar’s company history.

What should you verify when assessing an Aquastar 63?
Because the sources do not establish the 63’s reference-specific values, evaluate an individual watch on its own evidence rather than relying on generic figures attributed to the model. Ask for clear photographs, service records, and documentation that supports the seller’s identification and condition claims.
- Identity and date: Check the reference and any supporting documentation; do not assume a production year from the model name alone.
- Case and bezel: Examine the case shape, dimensions, bezel type and operation, and signs of polishing or replacement parts.
- Movement and service: Confirm the movement fitted and ask when it was last serviced and by whom.
- Water resistance: Do not treat a vintage watch as suitable for immersion based on the model name or Aquastar’s history. A current pressure test by a qualified watchmaker is needed to assess a particular watch.
- Originality and condition: Ask which components are original, which have been replaced, and whether modifications are documented.
Aquastar’s current accessories listing includes straps, bracelets, a case-back removal tool, and a bezel insert for a named model; it does not establish that any of these parts fit the vintage 63. Confirm compatibility by exact reference before purchasing. Aquastar accessories.

Where does Aquastar’s history leave the 63’s origin story?
Aquastar’s account supports a broader story of early dive-watch and bezel innovation, including the company’s stated 1959, 1962, and 1964 milestones. It does not, on its own, prove that the Aquastar 63 originated an iconic case. Until a model-specific archival record establishes that connection, the 63’s case-origin claim remains unresolved.
