Jorg Weppelink’s five favorite Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025 releases range from a rose-gold split-seconds chronograph to an opaline-dial GMT and a platinum sports watch. They are a personal shortlist—not an objective ranking of every watch at the fair—and deliberately mix aspirational pieces with watches he could imagine adding to his own collection.

What makes these Jorg’s picks?

In his April 10, 2025 Fratello Favorites article, Jorg Weppelink describes a show with highlights across categories and price points, then chooses five watches that stood out to him. His selection balances spectacular high-end or precious-metal releases against pieces that might realistically make his collection wishlist. The result is best read as one enthusiast’s point of view, not a consensus verdict or a comprehensive list of the fair’s best releases.

The distinction matters: the source offers no comparable market-sales, resale, or consumer-preference figures for these watches. Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation’s April 7, 2025 press kit reported more than 55,000 visitors, including 6,000 retailer representatives and 1,600 journalists, and said 23,000 public-day tickets were sold. Those figures describe the event as a whole; they do not show that any particular watch was popular or readily available.

Jorg’s five Watches and Wonders 2025 favorites

1. Patek Philippe 5370R Split-Seconds Chronograph

This is Weppelink’s favorite release of the show. He singles out the 41 mm rose-gold case, brown Grand Feu enamel dial, and beige champlevé enamel tachymeter scale. The manual-winding split-seconds chronograph is powered by caliber CHR 29-535 PS; the article reports a 312-part movement and a 65-hour power reserve. These specifications are reported by Weppelink’s article, rather than independently verified here against current Patek Philippe technical material.

Its appeal is the combination of precious-metal presence and a demanding complication, with enamel detailing adding another layer of craft. It is the most overtly high-end, collector-oriented choice in this group.

2. Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds Pink Gold

Weppelink’s enthusiasm here is primarily aesthetic. He praises the pink-gold case, textured dial, applied hour markers, dauphine hands, and fine pink-gold mesh bracelet. His article says the bracelet uses 16 meters of thin pink gold; that detail is part of his account, not an independently confirmed specification here.

Where the Patek Philippe is defined by its chronograph mechanism, the Reverso makes its case through materials, dial texture, and the distinctive mesh bracelet. This is a personal design favorite, not a claim that the model was universally admired.

3. Grand Seiko Spring Drive U.F.A. SLGB003

The SLGB003 brings a different kind of technical interest: its Spring Drive 9RB2 movement is reported in the article to have an accuracy of ±20 seconds per year. The watch has a 37 mm high-intensity-titanium case, a silver-blue dial, and a bracelet clasp with tool-free micro-adjustment. The official Watches and Wonders novelty list also names Spring Drive U.F.A. under Grand Seiko.

  • TRUSTED CASIO QUALITY Built with Casio's legendary reliability, this water-resistant digital watch features a durable chrome-plated resin case, stainless steel bracelet, LED backlight for nighttime visibility, and quartz accuracy of approximately ±30 seconds per month.

Weppelink says he wore the watch briefly. That is his reported hands-on impression, not a separate test. Its smaller stated case size and titanium construction distinguish it from the gold and platinum choices; its appeal is as much about Spring Drive precision and everyday wearability as about visual finish.

4. Tudor Black Bay Pro Opaline

For Weppelink, the opaline dial’s black-and-white contrast is the draw. It reduces the yellow accents while retaining yellow on the GMT hand, giving the watch a different look from the black-dial Black Bay Pro. The official novelty list names BLACK BAY PRO under Tudor; the details about this specific opaline version come from Weppelink’s article.

He says the case was unchanged and reflects that, after wearing the black-dial version for a year, he did not consider a thinner case essential, though he would have welcomed one. Those comments describe his own preferences and experience. This pick is the most explicitly travel-oriented option in the five, thanks to its GMT focus.

5. Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XP CS Platinum

Weppelink highlights the blue gradient eagle-iris dial, platinum case and bracelet, baton indexes apart from XII, and the absence of a date window. The official novelty index lists the Alpine Eagle 41 XP CS Platinum under Chopard. He also imagines the design in Lucent Steel, but that is a personal wish—not a confirmed product announcement.

Its uncluttered dial and platinum construction make this the shortlist’s most restrained-looking precious-metal sports watch. The appeal lies in the contrast between a clean display and a highly luxurious case and bracelet.

How to compare the five watches

The picks are difficult to rank on a single scale because they answer different tastes: a complicated chronograph, a dressier Reverso, a precision-focused titanium watch, a GMT, and a date-free platinum sports watch. The table compares only details reported in Weppelink’s article and the event novelty list. Prices and full, directly comparable specifications are not established in those sources.

Should you pick Watches and Wonders favorites regardless of price?

Only if you are treating the list as inspiration rather than a buying shortlist. Weppelink intentionally mixes aspirational releases with watches he could imagine adding to his collection, but the article does not give comparable prices, establish regional availability, or evaluate ownership costs. A personal favorite can be meaningful even when it is beyond a reader’s budget; it is not, by itself, evidence that the watch is attainable or the right choice to buy.

For a practical purchase comparison, first decide which qualities matter most to you: complication, case and bracelet material, stated case size, dial legibility and style, or the distinction between a watch for personal wear and one with high-end collector appeal. Then check current manufacturer specifications and availability in your region before making a decision. The cited official novelty index confirms the Grand Seiko, Tudor, and Chopard model families or releases listed there, but it is not a complete technical-specification reference.

What this shortlist can—and cannot—tell you

Watches and Wonders Geneva’s official press kit described the event as a platform for watchmaking houses to express their identities and share their creations. Foundation president Cyrille Vigneron called it “not only a must-attend inter-professional event, but also a platform for expression for the watchmaking Maisons.” That is useful context for a fair built around presentation and discovery, but it does not turn an individual editor’s preferences into a popularity ranking.

Ultimately, these five picks offer a useful cross-section of what caught one watch writer’s eye in 2025: mechanical complexity and enamel, distinctive gold styling, Spring Drive and titanium, a high-contrast GMT dial, and a pared-back platinum sports-watch design. Use the list to identify what attracts you, then assess the exact model and current availability on their own merits.
