What is the Breguet Marine collection?
The Marine is Breguet’s contemporary interpretation of its maritime heritage. The brand traces that identity to Abraham-Louis Breguet’s appointment as Watchmaker to the French Royal Navy in 1815. In Breguet’s account, marine chronometers were designed to keep time reliably despite a ship’s motion and changes in temperature; navigators used them with sextants to determine longitude. Why the Marine? Its nautical details are more than styling
Breguet uses maritime references throughout the collection, while retaining the finishing and mechanical focus associated with the house. The most legible cues are small details: a “B”-shaped tip on the 5517 seconds hand and a corresponding motif on the 5527 central chronograph hand, which Breguet says references the maritime Bravo flag; a crown guard shaped to evoke waves; and a gold oscillating weight inspired by a ship’s rudder. Breguet says the collection’s wave guilloché is executed by hand on a traditional engine-turning lathe. It also says its self-winding Marine calibres are developed and assembled within its Manufacture, use silicon balance springs and escapements, and are tested in six positions. Marine 5517, 5527 and 5547 compared
The three models serve distinct purposes. The 5517 is the straightforward time-and-date choice; the 5527 adds a flyback chronograph; the 5547 combines an alarm, a second time zone and a date. Specifications below refer to the cited references or the versions described in Breguet’s March 2026 announcement, not every Marine ever made.

Marine 5517: the uncomplicated entry to the collection
The cited 5517 reference, 5517BR/12/RZ0, is a 40 mm automatic watch with a date and calibre 777A. Breguet lists a 55-hour power reserve, 235 movement components, a 22 mm lug width, an 11.5 mm thickness and 10-bar water resistance. This reference has a rose-gold case and bracelet, and its movement has a flat silicon balance spring. These measurements and materials apply to that specific reference, not every 5517. The 2026 interpretations move the date to 6 o’clock, according to Breguet. Date position can differ between references, so it is worth checking the exact version rather than treating one dial layout as universal. Marine Chronographe 5527: a flyback for successive timing
The 5527 is the collection’s chronograph option. Breguet’s 2026 announcement gives the case diameter as 42.3 mm and water resistance as 100 metres. It describes a central elapsed-seconds hand, a chronograph-minute counter and a small-seconds display, powered by the self-winding calibre 582QA with 343 components. Flyback means the chronograph can be reset and restarted in one operation while it is running, rather than stopped, reset and started as separate actions. The 5547 is the most travel- and complication-focused of these three models. Its alarm function sits alongside a dual-time display and date, giving it a practical role that neither the simple 5517 nor the chronograph 5527 fills. Breguet’s operating instructions identify it as self-winding and specify 5-bar/50-metre water resistance. Water resistance: check the reference and crown conditions
Marine is a collection name, not a promise that every model has the same water resistance. The cited 5517 is rated at 10 bar/100 metres when its crown is screwed in, according to Breguet’s manual. The 5547 instructions specify 5 bar/50 metres. The 2026 announcement gives the 5527 100-metre resistance. Follow the instructions for the specific watch, including crown requirements; a depth rating alone does not establish suitability for every water activity. Which Breguet Marine makes sense for you?
- Choose the 5517 if you want a time-and-date watch and prefer the least complicated display of these three. Confirm the reference for its case material, bracelet or strap, date position and water-resistance conditions.
- Choose the 5527 if you will use a chronograph, especially its flyback restart, and are comfortable with a larger 42.3 mm case in the announced 2026 versions.
- Choose the 5547 if an alarm and second time zone are more useful to you than a chronograph, and its 5-bar/50-metre rating suits your intended wear.
