The Casio F-91W is a lightweight everyday watch that Casio says is designed to withstand normal-use impacts and light activity, while warning that strong impacts can cause malfunction. That makes it practical for ordinary wear, but it does not make it a shock-resistant G-SHOCK or a watch rated for swimming or diving.
Its resilience has limits: the resin components can age, Casio gives no specific water-resistance depth rating on the product page reviewed here, and battery service can affect water resistance. Treat it as a durable daily watch, not as an impact-proof or aquatic tool watch.
What makes the F-91W practical for everyday wear?
Casio India lists the F-91W-1 at 38.2 × 35.2 × 8.5 mm and 21 g, with a resin case, resin band, and resin glass. It lists approximately seven years of battery life on a CR2016 cell and accuracy of ±30 seconds per month. These specifications describe the India listing and should not be taken as universal regional price or warranty terms.
| Specification | Casio India listing |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 38.2 × 35.2 × 8.5 mm |
| Weight | 21 g |
| Case, band, and glass | Resin |
| Battery | CR2016; approximately seven years |
| Accuracy | ±30 seconds per month |
Casio’s Module 3592 precautions give a useful, precise description of impact tolerance: “Your watch is designed to withstand impact incurred during normal daily use and during light activity such as playing catch, tennis, etc. Dropping your watch or otherwise subjecting it to strong impact, however, can lead to malfunction.” The watch is therefore suitable for ordinary knocks and light activity, but strong impacts remain a risk.

Casio separately identifies G-SHOCK, BABY-G, and G-MS as watches with shock-resistant designs, including for activities involving strong vibration or strenuous sports. Do not infer that the F-91W has that designation from its everyday-impact guidance. Its low weight and simple digital functions may make it unobtrusive and convenient, but those features are not a substitute for a shock-resistance rating.
Is the F-91W water resistant?
Casio’s F-91W-1 product page reviewed for this article labels it “Water Resistant,” but does not state a specific depth rating. That wording alone is not permission to swim or dive, so keep water exposure conservative and follow the watch’s module precautions.
| Situation | Practical guidance |
|---|---|
| Ordinary rain or hand washing | Keep within modest everyday exposure; do not deliberately soak the watch. |
| Swimming or snorkeling | Do not assume the watch is suitable; the cited product page gives no depth rating. |
| Diving or water-related work | Do not rely on the F-91W for this use. |
| Operating buttons while wet or submerged | Avoid it. |
Casio advises replacing gaskets periodically, about every two or three years, and requesting a water-resistance check when the battery is replaced. Seals and resin components can deteriorate with use and storage, so an older watch may not have the same protection as a new one.

Where can the F-91W wear or fail?
Resin band and case components
Casio warns that daily use and long-term storage can lead resin components to deteriorate, break, or bend, depending on use and storage conditions. Inspect the band and other resin parts for visible cracking, deformation, or other deterioration, particularly on an older watch. Replace worn components rather than assuming they will remain dependable indefinitely.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsResin glass
The F-91W uses resin glass. Casio identifies the material but the research did not establish a scratch-resistance test, so avoid treating any precise scratch-life claim as a measured specification. The material is one reason to avoid abrasive contact and to accept that cosmetic marks may occur during daily wear.
Heat and cold
Casio’s Module 3592 precautions say long-term exposure above +60 °C (140 °F) may cause LCD problems. The LCD may be difficult to read below 0 °C (32 °F) and above +40 °C (104 °F). Avoid leaving the watch in extreme heat for long periods, and note that display readability can be affected by temperature.

- AN ICON SINCE 1989 — THE WORLD'S MOST POPULAR DIGITAL WATCH — Introduced in June 1989 as a successor to the F-87W, the F-91W is popular for its low price, long battery life, and iconic design. As of 2026, production of the watch has reached 100 million units, making it the most sold watch in the world. A timeless design, unchanged since launch, that has earned a global cult following across generations.
- FEATHERLIGHT & SLIM — Urethane resin is employed for the case and band, and the module features a reduced number of components — every element of construction was reconsidered to secure high quality at an affordable price, resulting in a global hit watch that offers both affordability and long-lasting reliability. The case measures 38.2 × 35.2 × 8.5mm and weighs just 21 grams — barely noticeable on the wrist.
- 1/100-SECOND STOPWATCH WITH SPLIT TIME — The 1/100-second stopwatch covers elapsed time, split time, and 1st-2nd place timing up to 59'59.99" — precise enough for sports, training, cooking, and any timed activity. Handy features for day-to-day life also include a daily alarm, water resistance, and LED light functions.
- DAILY ALARM | HOURLY CHIME | AUTO-CALENDAR | LED LIGHT — Module 593 delivers functions for a daily alarm, chronograph/stopwatch, annual calendar, and hourly chime, with selectable 12 or 24-hour format. The auto-calendar and LED backlight round out a complete, practical feature set in a package that fits any wrist from 145 to 200mm.
- 7-YEAR BATTERY | MODULE 593 | 18MM LUG WIDTH — Powered by a CR2016 battery with an approximate 7-year life — often lasting 10 or more years in practice. The F-91W has an 18mm lug width, meaning standard 18mm NATO straps fit directly without any modification — making it one of the most customizable and mod-friendly watches available at any price point.
Battery and seals
Casio lists approximately seven years of battery life on a CR2016, but actual life can vary. A CR2016 is the documented battery specification; buying the correct cell does not make opening and resealing the case risk-free.
Casio says battery replacement requires special tools and recommends using the original retailer or an authorized CASIO service center. Its precautions also say a trained technician will inspect proper water resistance whenever the battery is replaced. Request that check if preserving water resistance matters.

When should you choose a G-SHOCK instead?
Choose a watch explicitly designated as shock resistant if your use involves strong vibration, strenuous sports, or repeated hard impacts. Casio’s Module 3592 precautions distinguish shock-resistant models such as G-SHOCK from ordinary watches. Check the specific model’s water-resistance rating as well if you need a watch for swimming or other water use; do not assume all G-SHOCK models have identical specifications.

- Check the model listing: confirm that the listing is for the intended F-91W variant. Specifications, price, and warranty can vary by region.
- Keep water exposure conservative: the product page reviewed says “Water Resistant” but gives no specific depth rating.
- Inspect resin parts: look for deterioration, cracking, bending, or other signs of wear.
- Mind temperature: avoid long-term exposure above +60 °C and expect LCD readability limits outside the stated temperature range.
- Service the battery professionally: use the original retailer or an authorized CASIO service center and request a water-resistance check.
- Maintain the gaskets: Casio recommends periodic replacement, about every two or three years.
Verdict: everyday durability, not shock resistance
The F-91W is light, simple, and documented by Casio as able to withstand normal daily-use impacts and light activity. It is reasonable to call it a practical everyday watch, provided that strong impacts, resin aging, and water-resistance limits are taken seriously.
Casio does not describe it as shock resistant, and the product page reviewed gives no specific water-resistance depth rating. For stronger impact protection or a defined water-use requirement, choose a watch with the relevant manufacturer designation and specifications.
