Stockton’s April 1, 2015 review describes watches sold as souvenirs in Chinese markets. Its playful publication date and first-person account are useful context, but the article does not establish a definitive production history.

Movement
Stockton reports seeing examples with different manual-wind movements, including 17- and 19-jewel versions. He opened one watch and found a vintage ZLN movement modified to drive the waving hand. He identifies ZLN with the Liaoning Watch Factory, later called Liaoning Peacock Watch Company. Size
The watch Stockton reviewed measured around 36 mm across the case and had an 18 mm leather strap. Those are specimen measurements, not confirmed specifications for all examples. Measure the lug width of the actual watch before ordering a replacement strap.

Reports of working and non-working examples, along with fit and wear issues, come from a single owner-review account. Use them as inspection prompts, not as proof of universal defects.

- Check both functions: Ask whether the watch keeps time and whether the waving hand moves. They are distinct functions, so verify each one separately.
- Ask about the movement: Request clear photographs and any known service history. Do not assume a movement attribution based only on the watch’s name or appearance.
- Inspect the case and dial: Look for damage, wear, and sharp case-back edges. Stockton reported sharp edges on his example.
- Check the strap and buckle: Confirm the strap’s condition, actual lug width, and buckle security; Stockton reported a buckle-pin failure on his watch.
- Try the fit if possible: Stockton found his example awkward to wear. Comfort and case shape can only be judged on the individual watch.
- Review seller evidence: Ask for operating footage, detailed condition photos, and any provenance or repair records the seller has. Treat undocumented claims about age, maker, or rarity cautiously.
If a watch is not running or its waving mechanism is unreliable, a qualified vintage-watch repairer may be able to assess it. The movement variation means a repair should be based on the specific watch rather than an assumption that all examples share the same mechanism.

When comparing watches, consider whether both functions work, movement and service information, case and dial condition, strap compatibility, and the seller’s documentation. A single sale cannot account for those differences.
