Yes, watches are still made in Britain, but domestic watchmaking is small beside the UK market for watches. Euromonitor International estimated that imports made up 96.3% of the UK watch-and-clock market in 2024. Bremont provides a documented example of UK-based manufacture; its claims about its own factory should not be taken as proof that every British brand, or every component in a Bremont watch, is made locally.
How big is the UK watch industry?
Euromonitor International’s September 2025 market summary gives a useful, though commercially estimated, snapshot of the UK watch-and-clock industry in 2024. Its figures describe different aspects of the sector and should not be mistaken for official government statistics.

The figures point to a sector with domestic manufacturing activity, but they do not support describing the UK as a major watch-producing country. Nor does the company count tell you how many firms make finished watches: businesses may occupy different roles across the supply chain.
Are any watches still made in Britain?
Yes. Bremont says its manufacturing centre, The Wing, in Henley-on-Thames is an end-to-end UK watch manufacture, and describes its watches as designed, manufactured and assembled in England. Those are Bremont’s claims about its operation. They establish a visible UK manufacturing example, not a general rule for British watch brands or independent verification that every component in every model is British-made.

Companies House lists Bremont Watch Company Limited as active and includes watch and clock manufacture, wholesale, retail and repair among its business activities. Its filing page showed accounts overdue when accessed on 8 October 2026. That is a filing-status observation; it does not by itself establish insolvency or operational failure.
What does “British-made” mean for a watch?
A watch passes through several stages, and a claim about one does not automatically establish where the others happen. “British brand” may refer to a company’s identity or headquarters; it does not, on its own, tell you where a watch was designed, where its movement came from, or where it was assembled.

- Design and engineering: Where the watch’s design and technical development take place.
- Movement and component sourcing: Where the movement and major parts are made or sourced. A UK factory does not establish that these inputs are domestic.
- Manufacturing and finishing: Whether UK operations include machining, finishing or other production work, rather than only final assembly.
- Assembly, regulation and inspection: Whether the watch is assembled, adjusted, tested and inspected in the UK. Evidence for one step should not be extended to all the others.
The available evidence does not establish a single watch-specific UK origin standard that makes “designed in Britain,” “assembled in Britain” and “manufactured in Britain” interchangeable. When a brand makes a provenance claim, look for the particular stages it names and whether it explains the origin of the movement and major components.

The Swiss figures show conditions in a major supplier country; the retailer figures show the reach of a distribution business. Neither can be used to infer whether British watch production is growing or shrinking.

How to assess a British watch brand’s provenance
- Identify the exact claim. Is the watch described as British-designed, British-assembled or British-manufactured? Treat each as a different statement.
- Check which production stages are named. Look for specific information about design, sourcing, machining, finishing, assembly, regulation and inspection, rather than relying on a broad country label.
- Separate company claims from independent evidence. A manufacturer’s description is useful evidence of what it says it does, but is not an independent audit of every model’s supply chain.
- Keep the company’s role in view. A brand owner, importer, manufacturer and retailer can all be part of the UK watch trade without doing the same work.
