Fortis’s current Halo model is the Novonaut N-42 TR Halo Green on Hybrid Strap (reference F2040023). Its unusual construction starts with a Lumicast X1 base dial made from Super-LumiNova X1. Rather than limiting lume to applied markers, Fortis says the dial itself becomes increasingly prominent in darkness, with contrasting green chronograph counters and a ceramic bezel that also carries Super-LumiNova X1.
That is a manufacturer description, not an independently measured brightness ranking. No published photometric test or verified glow-duration figure accompanies the current listing.

What does it mean for a watch dial to be a light source?
Fortis describes the design in unusually direct terms: “A functional design that turns the dial itself into a high-performance light source.” The quoted wording appears on the official product page and is a construction and marketing claim from Fortis, not a statement attributed to a named designer or an outside laboratory.
The Halo Green’s base dial is specified as Lumicast X1 made from Super-LumiNova X1. Green chronograph subdials provide contrast against that luminous foundation, while the bidirectional ceramic bezel includes Super-LumiNova X1 as well. In practical terms, the watch uses a much larger luminous surface than a conventional layout in which lume is concentrated mainly in hands and hour indices. Fortis says the dial becomes more prominent in darkness; the available specification does not establish how it compares with other watches under controlled measurement.

What is new about the Fortis Novonaut N-42 Halo?
A luminous-dial architecture
The defining change is the luminous base rather than a new decorative treatment applied over a conventional dial. The Halo Green pairs that base with green chronograph counters, preserving legibility between the main display and elapsed-time indications while keeping the luminous material visually central.

The Werk 17 TR chronograph movement
Inside is Fortis’s automatic Werk 17 TR. The listed functions are a column-wheel chronograph and day-date display, with a stated 70-hour power reserve. Fortis says the TR version adds variable-inertia regulation and a two-point balance fixation. Those are manufacturer specifications. Fortis also presents the calibre as an evolution of a movement associated, in its account, with earlier stratospheric-flight and rocket-mission testing; the current page does not provide test protocols, dates, reports or an independent certifier for that history.

Case, crystal and bezel
The case is made from recycled stainless steel and measures 42 mm across. Fortis lists 51 mm lug-to-lug, 15 mm overall height and 200 m water resistance. A double-sided anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the bidirectional ceramic bezel carries the additional luminous material described above.

How bright is the Fortis Novonaut Halo in the dark?
Fortis’s design should create a visibly larger luminous area than a dial that uses only small luminous markers, and the company specifically says the dial becomes more prominent in darkness. However, the official pages reviewed do not publish a brightness measurement, a candela value, a controlled comparison or a glow-duration test. It is therefore not possible to call the Halo the brightest watch, or to assign it a verified runtime, from the available evidence.
Brightness will also depend on how much light charges the Super-LumiNova X1 material, viewing conditions and the observer’s adaptation to darkness. Those variables make a controlled test important if a buyer needs performance data rather than the manufacturer’s construction description.

When comparing versions, check the exact reference and live product page for five items: the dial’s base and counter colors; the movement and stated reserve; case and strap configuration; bezel and luminous components; and current regional price and stock. The Halo Green’s 42 mm dimensions, 200 m rating and 70-hour reserve belong to reference F2040023, not automatically to every Novonaut N-42.
Who is the Halo Green for?
- Choose it for the concept: the broad luminous dial is the reason to buy this specific Novonaut, especially if darkness legibility is part of the watch’s visual appeal.
- Choose it for the tool-watch specification: the 200 m rating, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel and automatic chronograph make it suited to demanding everyday wear on paper.
- Check wearability first: 51 mm lug-to-lug and 15 mm height can feel substantial despite the moderate 42 mm diameter.
- Confirm the configuration: make sure the page identifies the TR movement, Halo Green dial and hybrid strap rather than another N-42 reference.
