Each offers a different reason to seek it out: an eight-day hand-wound Reverso, a large limited-edition Panerai with a three-day reserve, or a discontinued Datejust with a rotating timing bezel.
Stolk’s feature was published on November 16, 2024. Its marketplace figures are a dated snapshot from that article, not current inventory or a guide to today’s prices.
1. Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso 8 Days Power Reserve, ref. 240.8.14
Stolk’s first choice is an early-2000s steel Reverso with a distinctive complication: its eight-day power reserve is displayed through a window on the back of the watch. On the dial, a small-seconds register sits off-center. The result is a Reverso that keeps the line’s rectangular case while giving the wearer a practical reason to turn it over.
Movement and dimensions
The hand-wound Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 874 has two barrels, 210 parts and 25 jewels, and runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Stolk gives the case dimensions as 46.5 mm long, 29.2 mm wide and 12.2 mm thick. The long measurement is worth considering alongside the narrow width when judging how the rectangular case may wear.

What the 2024 listing snapshot showed
In the November 2024 feature, Stolk reported 11 examples on Chrono24 at €6,000–€8,000. Those were listings he observed at that time; they do not establish current availability, condition or value.
2. Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Marina Militare Acciaio, PAM00587
The PAM00587 drew Stolk for its transitional case design. It combines the cushion-shaped Radiomir case with solid lugs, but lacks the crown protector associated with the Luminor. The 2014 special edition pairs that shape with a 47 mm steel case, a black sandwich dial, Super-LumiNova and cambered Plexiglass.

Three-day movement and practical details
Its hand-wound P.3000 movement uses two barrels and provides a three-day power reserve. The hour hand can be adjusted independently in one-hour jumps, a useful travel-oriented function. Stolk lists water resistance at 100 m.
Edition and dated price context
The feature describes the PAM00587 as a 1,000-piece 2014 special edition. Stolk reported 14 Chrono24 examples, with European asking prices of €7,650–€9,890 in November 2024; the article gives €9,400 as the original listed price. These are figures from that dated feature, not a live market check.

3. Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph, ref. 116264
Stolk’s third pick is a 36 × 11.7 mm Datejust variant distinguished by an 18K white-gold fluted rotating bezel on a steel case. The feature lists black, white and blue dial options; Stolk’s preference is the white dial on an Oyster bracelet. Its rotating bezel gives the familiar Datejust format a timing function and a different visual character.
Background and movement
The feature traces Rolex’s rotating timing bezel to the ref. 6202 in 1953, followed by the Datejust Turn-O-Graph ref. 6309 in 1954; the Thunderbird name later became associated with the line. The ref. 116264 arrived in 2000 and was discontinued in 2011, according to Stolk’s account. It uses caliber 3135, a 4 Hz movement.

What the 2024 listing snapshot showed
In November 2024, Stolk reported 176 ref. 116264 examples across dial colors on Chrono24, at roughly €6,500–€8,000. That count and range describe his article’s snapshot only, not current supply or a verified valuation.

The Reverso is the choice here for a long rectangular profile and an unusually extended reserve. The Panerai is the largest and most overtly tool-oriented option, while the Rolex is the most compact and adds a rotating bezel to the Datejust design. These are different kinds of appeal rather than interchangeable alternatives.
