The Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Magic is a 2018, 45 mm limited-edition chronograph, reference 411.CF.8513.RX, made in vivid red ceramic and powered by Hublot’s automatic HUB1242 Unico movement. Hublot produced 500 examples. It is distinct from the later 42 mm Red Magic, reference 441.CF.8513.RX, which uses a different caliber.
What is the Hublot Big Bang Unico Red Magic?
It is a red-ceramic version of the Big Bang Unico flyback chronograph, unveiled in 2018. The original watch’s reference is 411.CF.8513.RX; the Geneva-based Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) and Fondation Haute Horlogerie (FHH) both record it as a 500-piece limited edition. GPHG’s model record and FHH’s profile provide the core identification and specifications.
The watch pairs a large, polished red ceramic case and bezel with an openworked dial. Red-matched numerals, indexes, hands and chronograph counters carry the color across the face, while the exposed movement gives the dial its mechanical depth. A red rubber strap with black details completes the monochrome design.

The movement’s flyback function lets the wearer reset and restart the chronograph in one action, rather than stopping, resetting and starting it separately. The HUB1242’s column wheel controls chronograph functions; published specifications also describe a double coupling or clutch arrangement. Why is the ceramic red?
Bright ceramic colors are challenging to produce because pigments can burn during high-temperature processing. FHH says Hublot spent four years developing its red ceramic process. Europa Star attributes the work to Hublot’s R&D and Metallurgy & Materials teams, describing a heat-and-pressure sintering process intended to preserve the pigment. Those accounts explain the development story; they are not independent laboratory measurements of scratch resistance or durability. FHH and Europa Star’s 2018 coverage both discuss the material.
The sources characterize the resulting ceramic as harder or more resilient than conventional ceramic, but provide no quantified test result. That does not mean the watch is scratch-proof or immune to damage: the available material accounts do not establish how it performs under a particular impact, abrasion or long-term use condition.

How much did the 2018 Red Magic cost?
Published historical indicated prices differ: FHH lists CHF 25,900, while GPHG lists CHF 24,900 including VAT. The records do not explain the difference in date, market or pricing basis. Hodinkee’s March 12, 2018 launch article said the price was still forthcoming at publication. These are historical figures, not a current asking price or resale valuation.
No current secondary-market offer or verified seller price is established here. For any high-value limited watch, check that the reference is 411.CF.8513.RX and review the seller’s provenance and documentation; a product identity alone does not establish a listing’s authenticity, condition or price.

How does it differ from the later 42 mm Red Magic?
Hublot’s current 42 mm Red Magic page describes a later watch, reference 441.CF.8513.RX, not a resized listing of the 2018 45 mm model. The two references share the Red Magic name and red ceramic theme, but differ in diameter and movement. Hublot’s page lists the later version as a 500-piece edition with 100 m / 10 ATM water resistance.
