A current Caviar AirPods Pro 2 customization was displayed at $910 when checked on August 16, 2026, while Caviar’s better-known $108,000 Pure Gold AirPods Max is a historical announced price whose present availability is unverified.
Three different answers to “most expensive AirPods”
The answer depends on whether you mean an official Apple product, a currently listed luxury customization, or the highest price ever publicly announced. Treating those as one ranking creates misleading headlines.

AirPods Max 2 is the official luxury model because it is Apple’s over-ear flagship, not because it uses precious metals. Apple does not sell official gold AirPods
Apple’s current listings do not show a solid-gold, diamond-set or jewel-encrusted AirPods model. “Gold AirPods” usually refers to one of four things:
- A gold-colored case or coating.
- A third-party gold-plated exterior.
- A gold logo or plaque on an otherwise ordinary case.
- A luxury case bundled with standard Apple earbuds.
“Gold-colored” describes appearance. “Gold-plated” means a thin gold layer over another material. “Solid gold” is a substantially different claim that should include purity, weight and documentation. A gold logo does not make the entire product gold.

The current luxury market: customized Apple hardware
Luxury vendors generally keep Apple’s electronics and alter the visible surfaces, case or presentation. Caviar’s Valencia AirPods Pro 2 page identifies AirPods Pro 2 and describes genuine Hermès Epsom calfskin with a Caviar emblem coated in 24-karat gold. The page called the product an “AirPods Pro 2 Case Valencia,” so confirm whether the quoted price includes the Apple earphones, rather than assuming every pictured component is included.
The page displayed $910, alongside a reduced displayed price of $780, when checked August 16, 2026. Caviar’s Breeze AirPods Pro 2 listing also displayed $910 and described blue Hermès Epsom leather with 24-karat-gold branding. These are public vendor prices at that time, not a verified worldwide record. Caviar provides invoice, card and showroom payment routes and says its products include an international certificate of authenticity; those are vendor statements, not independent material assays.

The famous $108,000 Pure Gold AirPods Max
MacRumors reported in December 2020 that Caviar planned a Pure Gold AirPods Max edition priced at $108,000, with an intended 2021 release. The report described gold and crocodile-leather treatment: MacRumors’ report. That is an announced historical price, not proof that the headphones are currently stocked or orderable in 2026. It is also not an Apple product. Comparing $108,000 with today’s $549 AirPods Max 2 produces roughly a 196-times multiple, but it compares a 2020/2021 announced custom edition with a 2026 Apple model.
What the premium actually buys
A luxury customization may pay for:
- Leatherwork, plating, precious-metal panels or gemstones.
- Hand finishing, engraving, logos and bespoke shapes.
- Scarcity, presentation boxes and concierge ordering.
- A vendor certificate or provenance paperwork.
It does not automatically buy better drivers, noise cancellation, battery capacity, Bluetooth performance, spatial audio or Apple software features. If the base product remains AirPods Pro 2, its core electronics remain those of AirPods Pro 2. A $910 listing is approximately 3.7 times the $249 Apple price of AirPods Pro 3, but that is not a like-for-like technical comparison. It is approximately 1.66 times the $549 AirPods Max 2 price.

How to verify a luxury AirPods listing
- Identify the base model. Record whether it is AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3 or AirPods Max 2.
- Check what is included. Ask whether the earbuds, charging case, cables and original packaging are supplied, especially when the title says “case.”
- Pin down the price. Distinguish a fixed price, sale price, “from” price, quotation or historical report. Caviar’s terms say individual-order prices may be supplied separately and listed prices can change: Caviar terms.
- Demand material detail. Ask for gold purity, approximate weight, plating thickness and gemstone documentation. A 24-karat-gold logo is not a solid-gold shell.
- Read warranty and service terms. Determine who repairs modified hardware and whether Apple service remains available. Do not assume Apple’s warranty covers aftermarket work.
- Check logistics. Confirm taxes, duties, insurance, shipping protection, returns and delivery time for bespoke work.
Risks that matter more than the price tag
- Added weight or bulk can affect comfort, headband balance or earbud fit.
- Altered housings may affect microphones, sensors, antennas, charging alignment or moisture resistance.
- Precious surfaces can scratch, tarnish or be unsuitable for exercise and travel.
- Replacement parts and straightforward repairs may be difficult to obtain.
- Custom goods may have restricted returns, while import, insurance and customs costs can be substantial.
Check Apple’s applicable warranty terms and the customizer’s written policy for the exact modification rather than assuming a warranty is automatically void or automatically preserved.

The highest-priced current public example identified here is Caviar’s customized AirPods Pro 2 presentation at a displayed $910, not a new Apple generation. The headline-grabbing $108,000 Pure Gold AirPods Max belongs in the history of luxury-tech announcements unless a current vendor page and order confirmation establish otherwise. In every case, the premium is primarily for materials, labor, scarcity and status—not proportionally better audio.
