In a 5 September 2024 opinion list, four Time+Tide contributors each chose one of the watches the publication said had been nominated for the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), then named a watch they felt should also have been nominated. Their picks favour inventive displays, expressive dials and distinctive design—but they are staff opinions, not an official ranking or a GPHG results list.
What the Time+Tide list covers
Time+Tide framed the GPHG as the “Oscars of the watch industry,” a comparison rather than an official title. Its 2024 article asked each team member to name “one watch as their favourite” and one they felt “got snubbed and should have made it.” The nomination and category details below reflect Time+Tide’s account; the GPHG’s official archive was not independently checked for each watch.
The four favourites were Ōtsuka Lōtec No. 6, Czapek Promenade Goutte d’Eau, Daniel Roth Tourbillon Souscription and Berneron Mirage Sienna. The four proposed snubs were Kallinich Claeys Einser Zentralsekunde, Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser, Anoma A1 and Audemars Piguet [RE]Master02. Time+Tide’s original list gives the contributors’ individual reasoning.
Borna’s favourite and snub
Favourite: Ōtsuka Lōtec No. 6
Borna singled out Jiro Katayama’s retrograde display modules and the No. 6’s distinctive design. He also found the GPHG Challenge category particularly interesting and gave Furlan Marri Disco Verde an honourable mention. Time+Tide reported in 2024 that Ōtsuka Lōtec watches were sold only in Japan at the time; that is a dated distribution statement, not confirmation of the brand’s current availability.
#1 Best Overall
Snub: Kallinich Claeys Einser Zentralsekunde
Borna argued that the Einser Zentralsekunde merited a nomination. He pointed to its steel case, a sapphire window on the side showing the power reserve, hand-worked dial options and manually wound KC001.1 movement. He speculated that it might have missed a cut-off, but Time+Tide did not establish that as the GPHG’s reason.
Jamie’s favourite and snub
Favourite: Czapek Promenade Goutte d’Eau
Jamie chose the Time Only nominee for its grand feu enamel and rippling dial. In separate hands-on coverage, Time+Tide described a 38 mm stainless-steel case, 50 metres of water resistance, an automatic SXH5 movement and a 60-hour power reserve. That article reported a limited edition of 100 pieces and a launch-era price of CHF 18,000; neither figure is a current availability or price quote. Rank #2
Snub: Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser
Jamie felt the Oris deserved a place in the list. Time+Tide said it was entered in Petite Aiguille and described its blue-green optical dial effect as laser-etched without pigments. The same 2024 article gave Petite Aiguille’s retail-price band as CHF 3,000–10,000. Those category and price-band details are the publication’s reporting, not independently verified official records.
Russell’s favourite and snub
Favourite: Daniel Roth Tourbillon Souscription
Russell praised the Tourbillon Souscription’s finishing, its relationship to earlier Daniel Roth work and the visual depth of its tourbillon. He also said he handled the watch at Geneva Watch Days; that is his personal account, not an independent assessment of the watch.

Snub: Anoma A1
Russell argued that Anoma’s sculptural first model deserved consideration, particularly in Challenge. Time+Tide described the A1’s pebble-like, asymmetrical form and linked its design inspiration to mid-century furniture.
Buffy’s favourite and snub
Favourite: Berneron Mirage Sienna
Buffy valued the Mirage Sienna’s unconventional asymmetry and a design built around the Cercle des Horlogers CH233 calibre. Time+Tide characterized the result as intentionally warped and psychedelic—an aesthetic judgment, not a technical classification.
Rank #4
Snub: Audemars Piguet [RE]Master02
Buffy said Audemars Piguet received no nomination that year and argued that the [RE]Master02 deserved recognition. Time+Tide connected the model to the 1960 reference 5159BA and Brutalist architecture, while noting criticism of its modern 41 mm size. The absence-of-nomination claim here is attributed to the 2024 article rather than independently confirmed against the GPHG archive.

The list does not offer a shared scoring system: each contributor chose according to personal taste. Its favourites span several kinds of appeal—Borna’s interest in display engineering, Jamie’s appreciation of dial craft, Russell’s attention to finishing and design lineage, and Buffy’s preference for unconventional form. The proposed snubs likewise range from movement and case details to an optical dial and sculptural design. These are useful ways to compare the watches, but they should not be mistaken for a consensus about which deserved an award.
