The clearest records are reports of jewellery purchases in 1991 and a 2000 court dispute; specialist articles identify several watches from photographs without establishing exact references or present-day ownership.
What the contemporary reports say about Tyson’s watch purchases
1991: A gold-and-diamond watch at Cellini
A Washington Post report published on 14 September 1991 said Tyson and his party left Cellini Fine Jewelry at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria with a gold-and-diamond watch and other jewellery. The reported total was $40,000 for the group’s purchases—not a stated price for the watch alone. The article did not name the watch’s maker or model.
2000: The Graff watch and the court dispute
According to The Guardian’s 28 June 2000 account of London High Court proceedings, Tyson selected a diamond watch with a sapphire dial at Graff’s New Bond Street store on 20 January. The paper reported that Tyson had agreed to pay $200,000 for that watch. It described the total bill as £426,000 for the watch, a bracelet and two pocket watches.
Graff told the court that the matter had been settled and that payment was expected by 7 July. At the time of the report, however, The Guardian said it was unclear who had paid. Graff solicitor Andy Kerman summed up the jeweller’s position after the hearing: “Laurence Graff is delighted the matter has been resolved. He will be even more delighted when he gets his money.”

ESPN’s contemporary report described a $630,000 jewellery bill and attributed purchase details to Graff’s lawyer and court papers. These are newspaper-reported transaction figures, not independent appraisals of the watches, and the different totals should not be treated as a single settled valuation.
A separate claim involving two watches
The Guardian also reported a distinct, continuing action involving two watches that jeweller David Gillow had lent to promoter Frank Warren. That claim was separate from the reported Graff settlement; the article did not say that it had been resolved.

Watches specialists have associated with Tyson
Later watch coverage adds names to the picture, but its identifications rely on photographs and specialist descriptions rather than a published, authenticated catalogue. The table distinguishes those identifications from the contemporary purchase reporting.
| Watch or family | Reported details | Evidence and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Rolex Datejust | White-gold example | Time+Tide identified Tyson wearing one in photographs. The cited article does not give an exact reference or establish current ownership. |
| Rolex Daytona | White gold, mother-of-pearl dial and diamond hour markers | Time+Tide identified the watch from photographs; the precise reference and present ownership are not established. |
| Cartier Pasha | Cartier Pasha family; no precise reference established in the cited identification | Italian Watch Spotter identified it from photographs, so it should be treated as a published identification rather than an authenticated inventory entry. |
| Hublot King Power World Boxing Council | Time+Tide describes a 24-piece charity set: 12 watches went to boxers, with duplicate pieces sold for charity. | A special charity edition connected with boxing, not evidence that the model is routinely available as a current retail watch. |
| Hublot Big Bang Unico WBC | Time+Tide reports that one was presented at a charity event. | The account establishes a charity-event connection, not Tyson’s current ownership or ordinary current availability. |
Time+Tide’s 8 June 2020 feature is the source for the Rolex descriptions and Hublot connections. Italian Watch Spotter’s 29 November 2020 article is the source for the Cartier Pasha identification. Neither article establishes a complete collection, exact references for every pictured watch or what Tyson owns now.

What is the story behind the Piaget watch?
Italian Watch Spotter repeats an anecdote, attributed to unnamed sources close to Tyson, that he left a boutique wearing a pavé-diamond Piaget after saying Showtime would pay. The account says Showtime later paid after a dispute. Because the story is not attributed to a named firsthand source and is presented as an anecdote, it does not establish that a theft occurred or that one was legally found. It is best understood as an unverified story repeated by a collector publication, not as a documented purchase record.

What the evidence can—and cannot—establish
- Documented reporting: Contemporary newspaper accounts describe the Cellini shopping party in 1991 and the Graff court dispute in 2000. The reports do not identify the model of the 1991 watch.
- Photographic identifications: Specialist publications associate Tyson with several Rolex, Cartier and Hublot watches. The cited descriptions do not provide a complete, authenticated catalogue.
- Ownership and value: These sources do not establish Tyson’s present ownership of the watches or current market prices. The newspaper amounts concern reported transactions or bills at the time, not modern valuations.
