Theo & Harris described its business in 2015 as an online boutique for vintage mechanical wristwatches, aiming to make distinctive pieces accessible to enthusiasts and style-conscious buyers. In a Fratello interview published July 13, 2015, co-founders Christian Zeron and Caleb Anderson discussed how they chose watches, where they found them, and how they thought about buyer education and support. Their comments are a historical account of the business at that time—not confirmation of the company’s present inventory, policies, or charitable work.

What niche did Theo & Harris aim to fill?

Zeron called Theo & Harris “an online boutique dedicated to exceptional vintage mechanical wristwatches.” Anderson said the aim was to offer “not only gorgeous pieces, but also relatively affordable vintage watches for those who appreciate them.” The founders described the selection as spanning familiar makers such as Omega, Rolex, and Blancpain as well as Seiko, Timex, and Bulova.

Their pitch was not limited to brand recognition. They presented each watch as having its own appeal through design, movement, or historical importance, including watches from makers a buyer might not know. Anderson summarized the variety this way: “All our watches have different historical and style appeals, and our customers have just as varied tastes.” The interview characterized the shop’s vintage selection broadly as lower- to mid-range or entry-level, but provided no aggregate prices or market study to define that positioning.

How did the founders source and select watches?

Zeron said most watches came from buy orders he placed with watch shops and antique booths. He also described sharing lists of wanted watches with more than two dozen people who regularly encountered potential pieces. That network size and sourcing description are his approximate account of the shop’s 2015 practice, not independently measured figures.

He recalled buying about twenty of the first thirty-five Theo & Harris watches through eBay and encountering five cases involving fake listings, broken watches, or other problems. He said he later bought through eBay only when he knew or knew of the seller. Those are Zeron’s personal experiences and stated approach; they do not establish a general risk rate for eBay or compare marketplaces.

The founders also emphasized describing what came into the shop. Zeron said, “We spend a great deal of time nailing down the specifications on every single watch that comes into our inventory.” In the interview, he recalled that buyer requests often concerned watches in the $2,000 to $4,000 range; that was a description of requests received in 2015, not a current price guide or an estimate of the vintage-watch market.

Which watches reveal their tastes?

The examples in the interview show the range of references and design histories that interested the founders. They are examples from a 2015 conversation, not evidence of current Theo & Harris stock or recommendations to buy these watches.

Watch What the founders said
Omega Seamaster Zeron said an old Seamaster belonging to his grandfather first sparked his interest in watches.
Rolex Milgauss, King Seikos, and Omega Chronostop Anderson named these among his favorites, explaining that he liked watches that broke ground or reinvented a design.
Rolex 6265 Zeron recalled that finding one below market value was possible, though rare. This was a recollection about sourcing at the time, not present-day availability or pricing guidance.
Rolex 6480 Zeron described a former favorite with a black dial, progressive fade, alpha hands, a manual-wind movement, and a 34 mm case. He said he regretted selling it; the description is his interview account, not an independent reference check.
Late-1950s Invicta Anderson discussed an example then listed on the site, describing its period design and movement sourcing. No model reference was given.
Sandoz Anderson described a watch then in stock as evoking the era of divers led by Rolex. No model reference was given.

What did the interview say about buyer education and support?

The founders’ approach to curation depended on explaining why a watch might matter beyond its name. A buyer assessing a vintage mechanical watch can use the same themes they raised—design, movement, and historical significance—to clarify what they value and what details they need to understand before purchasing.

On returns, Anderson said the shop offered full store credit, which customers could use immediately or later. He also said customers could contact the business if a watch developed an issue and that it would direct them toward help. The interview does not establish a cash-refund option, formal warranty, repair coverage, or the shop’s current terms.

What was Help NY?

The founders described Help NY as an initiative directing a portion of profits to New York City charities. They named The Bowery Mission and the Coalition for the Homeless as organizations they supported at the time. This records what they said in 2015; it does not establish that the initiative or those donation arrangements continue today.

How should readers use this interview today?

Use the conversation as a dated portrait of two founders’ taste and their description of a small vintage-watch business—not as a current buying guide, inventory list, or market forecast. Anderson’s statement, “I can only see growth for the market,” was an opinion expressed in 2015, not a measured result or a current forecast.

If you are evaluating a vintage watch from any seller, compare the information actually provided about its reference, dimensions, movement, condition, and history; review the seller’s current return and after-sale terms; and weigh price against the specific design or historical qualities that matter to you. The interview offers no independent comparison of Theo & Harris with other retailers and does not establish the company’s current policies or stock.
