The Timex Waterbury Classic Automatic 40mm, reference TW2T70000, is described by Timex India as a stainless-steel automatic watch with a black dial, date display and black croco-pattern leather strap. The listing specifies a 21-jewel movement with up to 40 hours of stored energy, but it contains a conflicting “Quartz Analog” field, and its 50m water-resistance rating differs from a retailer’s 30m figure. Those conflicts matter: the available evidence supports a specifications-led look, not a firsthand review or a firm recommendation for water activities.
Which Waterbury Classic is this?
This article concerns the Timex Waterbury Classic Automatic 40mm, reference TW2T70000, as identified on Timex India’s product listing. Timex has also listed a newer Waterbury Heritage Automatic, reference TW2Y94200, but that is a different watch with a different case size, movement, display and bracelet. Its specifications should not be attributed to TW2T70000.
What Timex lists for the TW2T70000
| Feature | Timex India listing |
|---|---|
| Case diameter | 40mm |
| Case material and dial | Stainless steel; black dial |
| Strap | Black croco-pattern leather |
| Movement | Described in the product copy as a 21-jewel automatic movement |
| Stored energy | Up to 40 hours, according to Timex’s product description; not an independent test result |
| Crystal | Mineral glass |
| Display and functions | Analog display; date |
| Water resistance | 50m in the specification field; a retailer result for the same reference reports 30m |
| Listed wrist fit | 150–205mm wrist circumference, according to the product size guide |
These are published product details, not measurements made during a hands-on evaluation. The listing does not establish thickness, lug width, accuracy, lume performance, or how the watch wears on an individual wrist.
Is the Timex Waterbury Classic automatic?
Timex’s descriptive copy identifies TW2T70000 as automatic and says it is powered by the wearer’s motion. It also names a 21-jewel automatic movement. However, the same page includes a specifications field labeled “Quartz Analog.” That is an internal inconsistency in the official listing, not a basis for treating the watch as a quartz model. Buyers should confirm the movement for the exact reference with Timex or the seller before purchase.
#1 Best Overall
- Automatic Movement - The battery-free 21-jewel Japanese automatic movement is powered by your motion as you wear the watch.
- Stainless-steel Case - The durable stainless-steel case is resistant to corrosion, rust, and daily wear and tear.
- American By Design - The two-tiered case draws from the organic, circular design of one of 5th Avenue’s most notable buildings, while ornate hands and beveled markers echo the Art Deco icon punctuating Lexington Ave.
- Eco-friendly Natural Leather Strap - Made from supple leather sourced from the Leather Working Group (LWG) and complete with quick-release spring bars for easy strap changes without the need for tools.
- Deployant Buckle - This special clasp on the strap minimizes bending and pulling, preserving the integrity of the leather.
What does the 40-hour figure mean?
Timex says the watch can store up to 40 hours of energy. That is the manufacturer’s stated maximum, not a verified reserve measurement for an example of TW2T70000. The evidence available here does not establish how long a fully wound watch will run under particular conditions, or its accuracy between windings.
How certain is the water-resistance rating?
Timex India lists 50m water resistance, while a retailer result for TW2T70000 reports 30m. The available information does not resolve the discrepancy, and no model-specific manual establishing activity guidance is available here. A meter rating should not be converted into a swimming or other use recommendation without reliable documentation. Check the manual supplied with the exact watch, or ask Timex or an authorized seller, before exposing it to water beyond incidental contact.

How it differs from the Waterbury Heritage Automatic
The newer Timex US listing for TW2Y94200 describes a Waterbury Heritage Automatic with a 39mm case, Miyota 8205 movement, day/date display, bracelet and a 50m rating. Those details belong to that Heritage reference, not the 40mm leather-strap TW2T70000. The distinction is useful when searching or comparing listings: check the reference number, not just the Waterbury name.

aBlogtoWatch’s December 29, 2019 video review concerns the related white-dial TW2T69900 variant, not TW2T70000. Its description reported a 40mm case, a Japanese Miyota automatic movement and a $249 USD price at publication. That dated price is not a current price for the black-dial reference, and the review metadata is not evidence that TW2T70000 itself was tested.

No independently verified accuracy, power-reserve, comfort, sound, lume or water-resistance test for TW2T70000 is established here. If those qualities are decisive, seek a review that identifies the exact reference and describes its testing, or evaluate the watch in person and consult its documentation. The published specifications alone cannot establish real-world performance.

What to verify before buying
- Confirm the reference is TW2T70000, rather than the visually or nominally related Heritage Automatic TW2Y94200 or another Waterbury variant.
- Ask the seller to resolve the automatic-versus-quartz wording on the official listing and confirm the movement in the actual watch.
- Request the exact model’s manual or written water-resistance guidance; the 30m/50m discrepancy is unresolved here.
- Check that the stated 150–205mm wrist range suits you, and try the watch on if fit is uncertain.
- If replacing the strap, establish the lug width and spring-bar fit first; the cited Timex listing does not state lug width.
