The Tissot PRC 100 Solar 39mm is a practical Swiss-made everyday watch for someone who wants an analog quartz watch with solar charging, sapphire crystal, 100 m water resistance, and a more distinctive design than a conventional round case. Its Lightmaster solar-quartz movement replenishes a rechargeable accumulator through light passing beneath the crystal. That means less routine battery replacement, but not zero maintenance.
The name covers several references, not one exact watch. The stainless-steel bracelet model discussed most closely here is reference T151.422.11.031.00, also listed as SKU T1514221103100. It has a silver dial, 39 mm case, 20 mm lugs, and a twelve-sided bezel.
What is the Tissot PRC 100 Solar 39mm?
The Tissot PRC 100 Solar 39mm watch is an analog Swiss quartz watch that uses Tissot’s Lightmaster solar system instead of relying on a conventional disposable battery. It is not a smartwatch, GPS watch, radio-controlled watch, or mechanical watch. There are no notifications, health sensors, automatic winding, or satellite timekeeping functions.
Its appeal is simpler: the watch displays the time and date, charges from natural or artificial light, and combines everyday practicality with materials usually associated with more expensive watches. The collection sits in Tissot’s Classic Contemporary range and draws on a PRC 100 design heritage dating to the mid-2000s. The current model’s most recognizable feature is its bold dodecagonal, or twelve-sided, bezel.

How the Lightmaster solar movement works
Photovoltaic cells are integrated beneath the sapphire crystal. They collect both natural and artificial light and convert it into energy stored in a rechargeable accumulator. The dial therefore looks like a conventional watch dial rather than an obvious solar panel.
Tissot’s product material states that a full charge can provide up to 14 months of operation in darkness. Specialist technical coverage identifies the base caliber as ETA F06.615 and reports that approximately 10 minutes of daylight may provide up to 24 hours of operation. Those are manufacturer or movement claims, not an independently verified test result for every watch or lighting condition. Charging speed depends on the intensity and type of light, the angle of exposure, and the accumulator’s condition.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →In normal use, the watch does not need to be placed in direct sunlight every day. Indoor and artificial light can contribute to charging, although brighter light generally provides more energy than dim ambient light. Avoid treating the 14-month figure as a promise that the watch can be stored indefinitely without attention.
What happens when the energy runs low?
The Lightmaster system includes an End of Energy indicator. According to specialist technical coverage, the seconds hand moves at four-second intervals when the stored energy is low. That behavior is a warning, not a new timekeeping mode. Expose the watch to suitable light and consult Tissot or an authorized service channel if normal operation does not return.

Solar charging reduces routine battery changes; it does not make the watch maintenance-free. The rechargeable accumulator, seals, movement, crystal, bracelet, and other components still age and may eventually require inspection or service.
Design and wearing experience
39 mm is versatile, but not universally perfect
A 39 mm diameter places the PRC 100 Solar in a broadly wearable contemporary size. The relatively modest 9.22 mm thickness should help it sit neatly under a cuff while retaining the presence expected from a sports-classic watch.
Case diameter alone does not determine fit. Wrist circumference and shape, the effective lug-to-lug span, bracelet sizing, dial color, and personal preference all matter. The dodecagonal bezel also makes the watch look more assertive than a plain 39 mm round case. Someone who wants a visually quiet dress watch may find the bezel too prominent; someone who considers ordinary round watches bland may see it as the main attraction.
Bracelet weight and configuration
The stainless-steel bracelet version is listed at 128 g, giving it a substantial feel. That is useful if you like a solid metal watch, but it is not the lightest option for all-day wear. For comparison, Tissot lists a black-dial leather-strap configuration at 62 g. The difference is large enough to affect comfort, balance, and how noticeable the watch feels on the wrist.
The silver-dial model uses applied indexes and Super-LumiNova on the hands. Its date display adds everyday usefulness, while the butterfly clasp with push-buttons keeps the bracelet visually clean. Buyers should still have the bracelet sized properly; a poorly sized bracelet can make a watch feel heavier and less comfortable than it needs to be.

PRC 100 Solar 39mm variants: check the reference number
“Tissot PRC 100 Solar 39mm” describes a collection family rather than one universal configuration. Tissot’s US collection listing has shown prices of roughly $515 to $625 across references, depending on the strap, dial, and case treatment. Those figures are not a fixed price for every model.
| Reference | Configuration identified in the catalog or coverage |
|---|---|
| T151.422.11.031.00 | Silver dial, stainless-steel case and bracelet |
| T151.422.11.041.00 | Blue dial, stainless-steel bracelet |
| T151.422.36.051.00 | Black dial, black-PVD case, black leather strap |
| T151.422.16.051.00 | Black dial, black-PVD and leather-strap configuration listed by Tissot |
The black-PVD versions can have a different visual character from the silver steel model, and leather versions are materially lighter. Before buying, compare the complete reference rather than relying on a product title, a photograph, or the shared “39mm Solar” wording.
Check five details at the retailer’s checkout:
- Exact Tissot reference number.
- Dial color and case coating.
- Bracelet, leather, or other strap configuration.
- Current price and stock status.
- Warranty handling and seller authorization.
Strap compatibility and changing the look
The bracelet model uses a quick-release interchangeable system and has a 20 mm lug width. Tissot’s accessory catalog includes compatible 20 mm options in leather, synthetic, rubber, textile, Milanese, and steel bracelet styles. A useful starting point is a 20 mm quick-release watch strap, but compatibility should be checked by exact watch reference rather than by width alone.
A nominally 20 mm third-party strap may fit between the lugs yet have the wrong end-link shape, spring-bar arrangement, or quick-release interface. That can leave gaps, sit poorly, or fail to secure the watch as intended. For the same reason, do not assume that a strap advertised for one PRC 100 Solar reference is automatically correct for every 39 mm variant.
For a dressier change, consider a leather option; for warmer or more active use, a rubber or textile strap may be more comfortable. Tissot also lists options such as a 20 mm black rubber strap and a 20 mm Milanese bracelet. Ordinary strap changes are designed to be tool-free, so a spring-bar tool is not a necessary first purchase. Bracelet resizing is different: if you are not comfortable removing links, a watchmaker or competent jeweler can do it cleanly.
Water resistance and everyday care
The PRC 100 Solar is rated to 10 bar, or 100 m / 330 ft. That is a pressure-resistance rating, not an unrestricted professional-diving certification. It is reasonable to view the rating as suitable for an everyday sports-classic watch and normal water exposure within the manufacturer’s instructions, but do not translate “100 m” into a guarantee for every underwater activity, depth, movement, or condition.
Water resistance can be affected by aging seals, impact, crown or case damage, and prior service. Have the watch inspected after a significant impact or whenever the case has been opened. Follow Tissot’s care guidance and avoid operating controls underwater unless the manufacturer specifically permits it.

The sapphire crystal is a strong feature because it is highly resistant to everyday scratching, but “scratch-resistant” does not mean scratch-proof. Hard impacts can still chip or damage sapphire, and the case and bracelet can show marks even when the crystal remains clear.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should buy the Tissot PRC 100 Solar 39mm?
This is a strong match if you want:
- A Swiss-made analog watch with solar charging.
- Less dependence on routine disposable-battery replacement.
- A sapphire crystal and 100 m water-resistance rating.
- A distinctive twelve-sided bezel without choosing a smartwatch or mechanical watch.
- A moderate 39 mm case with the option to change among 20 mm strap styles.
- A conventional time-and-date display rather than connected features.
Who should choose something else?
Look elsewhere if your priority is smartwatch functionality, GPS navigation, wireless time synchronization, extensive training data, or notifications. The PRC 100 Solar is intentionally a straightforward analog quartz watch.
It may also be a poor choice if you dislike the weight of a steel bracelet, want an especially thin minimalist watch, need professional-diving equipment, or specifically want a mechanical movement and its sweeping seconds-hand experience. Finally, anyone who expects “solar” to mean zero servicing should reconsider: the rechargeable accumulator and water-resistance components still have a finite service life.

The Tissot PRC 100 Solar 39mm succeeds by keeping solar technology discreet. The Lightmaster movement, sapphire crystal, useful 100 m rating, date display, quick-release 20 mm system, and unusual dodecagonal bezel make it a compelling everyday Swiss quartz watch. Its main compromises are the need to distinguish among several references, the substantial weight of the steel-bracelet model, and the fact that solar charging does not eliminate long-term service.
Choose the exact reference first, then evaluate fit, bracelet weight, strap compatibility, seller, warranty, and current price. For buyers who want a traditional-looking watch with low charging maintenance rather than connected features or mechanical character, the PRC 100 Solar 39mm is one of Tissot’s more practical contemporary options.

Can I use any 20 mm strap on the PRC 100 Solar 39mm?
Not necessarily. The watch uses a 20 mm quick-release interchangeable system, but end-link shape and interface design still matter. Confirm compatibility by the exact Tissot reference before buying a third-party strap.
Is the PRC 100 Solar suitable for diving?
It has a 10 bar, or 100 m / 330 ft, water-resistance rating. That should not be interpreted as unrestricted professional-diving capability. Water resistance can also decline with aging, impact, or case opening.
What is the price of the Tissot PRC 100 Solar 39mm?
Tissot listed the silver-dial stainless-steel bracelet reference T151.422.11.031.00 at $575 in the US during research. Other 39 mm variants were listed at approximately $515–$625, so verify the exact reference and current price before ordering.
