Neo Reverse, the operator of Japan’s Toke Match watch-rental service, announced its dissolution effective January 31, 2024. The Japan Sharing Economy Association said some customers’ entrusted watches had not been returned. The public statements cited here do not establish how many watches were recovered or whether owners have since been reunited with them.
What happened to Toke Match?
Toke Match was a peer-to-peer watch-rental service operated by Neo Reverse. In a February 1, 2024 statement, the Japan Sharing Economy Association said Neo Reverse had announced that it was dissolved effective January 31. The Association acknowledged reports that watches entrusted to the service had not come back to some people, describing “the situation in which there are people whose important watches entrusted to the service have not returned” (translated from the Association’s Japanese statement).
The Association also said it had received reports of some watches appearing in secondary-market channels and that users were having difficulty making police reports. These were reports received by the Association, not an independently verified count of watches or a finding about what happened to each one.
What did the Association do about Toke Match’s certification?
On February 1, 2024, the Association suspended Neo Reverse’s membership and the service’s certification mark, and removed company information from its website. On February 6, it decided to expel the company and revoke the mark. The Association said the service failed two requirements: O-1, providing a consultation or contact channel for providers, users, or third parties; and O-8, notifying users in advance when stopping or ending the service. It said those failures harmed users’ interests and public trust in the certification scheme. Japan Sharing Economy Association, February 6, 2024.

What the certification did—and did not—mean
The Association said its certification assessed service processes, including identity verification, review functions, a consultation channel, and information security. It did not assess a company’s financial condition or business continuity. The mark therefore was not a guarantee that an operator could remain solvent, keep operating, insure entrusted watches, or return property if the business closed. What recovery steps were documented?
Valuence’s inquiry desk
Valuence said it opened an inquiry desk to cooperate with police and support recovery. It closed the public desk on May 10, 2024, saying its role had progressed with the investigation. The company said it would continue responding to people who had already contacted it and continue cooperating with police. Its notice does not give a total of recovered watches or say how many owners received their property back. Valuence, May 10, 2024.

The Association’s inquiry count
The Japan Sharing Economy Association’s FAQ recorded 128 inquiries as of 10:00 on July 30, 2024. That figure counts inquiries received by the Association; it is not a verified number of affected owners, missing watches, or police cases. The FAQ also said the Association could not contact the company or its representative at that point. The public statements cited here establish that some users reported watches had not been returned and describe steps taken by the Association and Valuence during 2024. They do not establish the current status of legal proceedings, the number or value of watches still missing, a total recovery figure, or how many owners have been reunited with their watches. No verified total number or value of missing watches is stated in these sources.
