There is no single definition of an evil-looking watch. The five picks in Time+Tide’s August 2022 list lean into very different moods: gothic skulls, tattoo-like geometry, a vampire’s fangs, black-and-red sports styling, and a fiery evil-eye motif. This is an aesthetic shortlist, not an objective ranking or a current buying guide; prices and availability may have changed since publication.
What makes a watch look evil?
Here, “evil-looking” means dark or unsettling visual character, not a technical feature or a claim about quality. Some watches use familiar symbols such as skulls and fangs; others build a darker impression through shape, color, or theatrical detail. The five watches below show how broad that design brief can be.

The five watches
1. Strom Memento Mori, Carpe Diem — gothic skulls and mortality
Time+Tide describes a sterling-silver case hand-carved with skulls, paired with a genuine-bone dial, gothic Roman numerals, and cruciform hands. Its memento mori theme makes death imagery central to the design. The name also carries a reminder to seize the day, so the concept is not simply bleak: the article presents it as an uplifting idea rendered in ornate, gothic form. Time+Tide’s description is the source for these details.
2. Hublot Sang Bleu II Black Magic — tattoo-inspired geometry
This black-ceramic version is associated with tattoo artist and designer Maxime Plescia-Büchi’s Sang Bleu studio. Its layered geometric design gives the watch an almost sculptural, tattoo-like appearance. Time+Tide jokes that the complexity could distract from checking the time; that is a subjective reaction, not a measured legibility assessment.

3. Konstantin Chaykin Joker Dracula — fangs that mark day and night
The most character-driven pick turns Dracula’s fangs into a day/night indicator. According to Time+Tide, the fangs begin to emerge around 10 p.m., reach full extension at midnight, and retract between 6 and 8 a.m. The changing display makes the vampire theme part of the watch’s mechanical performance rather than just its decoration.
4. Seiko 5 Sports SRPD83 — black and red, with a more accessible look
Time+Tide’s 2022 article describes the SRPD83 with a 42 mm case, a 4R36 movement, 100 m water resistance, and black case and strap details set against blood-red dial and bezel accents. The combination gives this pick a more conventional sports-watch silhouette with a sinister color scheme. The article called it the more accessible option at the time, but its “few hundred dollars” framing is historical, not a current price. Its listed specifications have not been independently rechecked here against Seiko’s current product materials.
5. Richard Mille RM26-02 Tourbillon Evil Eye — a fiery talisman
The RM26-02 places an evil-eye design, surrounded by flames, over a tourbillon calibre. Time+Tide describes the eye as crafted in red gold with grand feu enamelling and micro-lacquering. The article speculates about an Eye of Sauron influence, but notes there is no official crossover; that connection should not be treated as confirmed inspiration.

Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode
In a February 19, 2024 announcement, Hublot described this separate model as a 42 mm sand-blasted and polished black-ceramic tonneau watch with a skull-and-hourglass motif and small black ceramic spheres in the dial. The brand listed a self-winding HUB1710_SD calibre with a 50-hour power reserve, two interchangeable straps, and a limited edition of 100. It is a different watch from the Sang Bleu II Black Magic above. Hublot also said that its partnership with Depeche Mode had raised over USD $2.3 million for Teenage Cancer Trust and charity:water by that announcement date; this is the brand’s reported fundraising figure, not a measure of the watch’s value. THOMAS SABO Rebel at Heart skull watch
THOMAS SABO’s product page documents the Rebel at Heart skull watch, article WA0377-201-203. It describes a 41 mm black-and-silver stainless-steel watch with a skull crown, nonreflecting sapphire glass, Miyota JS25 movement, chronograph, date and 24-hour display, and 5 ATM water resistance. - Motif: Decide whether you want skulls, vampire theatrics, geometric design, red accents, or talismanic imagery.
- Legibility: Look at the actual display and dial layout. A dramatic design is not proof that a watch is hard to read, and no equivalent legibility test is provided for these picks.
- Fit and materials: Verify case dimensions, case material, and strap options for the exact version and market.
- Movement and functions: Check whether the watch offers a conventional display, a character-based complication, or additional functions you will use.
- Water resistance: Confirm the current specification for the exact model; the stated figures in the 2022 Seiko article and 2026 THOMAS SABO page are not a like-for-like comparison.
- Price and availability: Treat dated article prices as historical context and confirm present stock with a seller or the brand.
