The choices span a revived chronograph, an unconventional counterclockwise display, a practical second-time-zone complication and refined time-only dress watches. “Favourite” reflects Blass’s personal editorial view, not an official Cartier ranking.
What were Zach Blass’s four favourite Cartier releases?
In his 13 April 2024 article, Blass wrote, “Here are four of my favourites.” His selections are distinct in both function and character:
- Privé Tortue Monopoussoir: a shaped-case, manually wound monopusher chronograph.
- Santos-Dumont Rewind: a watch whose reversed movement makes its hands travel counterclockwise.
- Santos de Cartier Dual Time: a steel Santos with a second time zone, day/night display and date.
- Santos-Dumont lacquered collection: three time-only versions distinguished by case metal and lacquered dial color.
These are Blass’s editorial picks, not an exhaustive list of Cartier’s 2024 novelties. Cartier’s official Watches and Wonders novelties page highlights the Privé Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph, while the event’s Cartier brand profile also describes jewellery-watch creations. Privé Tortue Monopoussoir: a shaped chronograph with historical roots
The Tortue’s curved case gives the monopusher chronograph a different silhouette from a conventional round sports chronograph. Blass reports dimensions of 34.8 mm across, 10.2 mm thick and 43.7 mm from lug to lug. It was offered in yellow gold and platinum, with 200 pieces reported for each metal.
Inside is the manually wound 1928 MC monopusher chronograph movement. A single pusher operates the chronograph, and Blass singled out the circular outer minute track as a legibility aid on the shaped dial. That combination—distinctive case geometry and a more clearly organized minute scale—is central to why this release stands apart from the other selections.
At publication, Time+Tide listed CHF 49,100 for yellow gold and CHF 57,000 for platinum. These are historical article prices from April 2024, not current Cartier quotes.

Santos-Dumont Rewind: why do its hands run backwards?
The Rewind’s defining feature is functional rather than decorative: its reversed, manually wound 230 MC movement drives the hands counterclockwise, and the numerals are arranged to suit that reversed motion. Blass describes a platinum case, a carnelian-red sunburst dial and Breguet-style hands.

Time+Tide gives a 38-hour power reserve and a 200-piece edition. Its publication-era price was CHF 37,000; that figure should not be treated as a current price.
Among Blass’s four choices, this is the most conceptually unusual: reading the time means adapting to hands moving in the opposite direction from a conventional watch. The attraction is the deliberate reversal, not an added complication such as a chronograph or second time zone.

Santos de Cartier Dual Time: a more functional travel watch
The Dual Time keeps the Santos’s steel-bracelet format but adds a second time-zone indication at 6 o’clock, paired with a day/night indicator. The date is at 3 o’clock. Its anthracite sunburst dial gives the added information a restrained backdrop.
Blass reports a 40.2 mm case width, 10.1 mm thickness and 47.5 mm lug-to-lug length. The watch has reported water resistance of 100 metres and a 40-hour power reserve. It comes with a steel bracelet and an anthracite alligator strap, with Cartier’s QuickSwitch system for changing between them.

Santos-Dumont lacquered collection: three metal-and-color combinations
The lacquered Santos-Dumont range puts the emphasis on dial color and case material rather than a new complication. Blass describes three configurations:
- Platinum: olive-green lacquered dial; limited to 200 pieces.
- Yellow gold: taupe lacquered dial; described as regular production.
- Rose gold: peacock-blue lacquered dial; described as regular production.
All three share reported dimensions of 31.5 mm wide, 7.3 mm thick and 43.5 mm lug-to-lug. Each uses the manually wound 430 MC movement, with a reported 38-hour power reserve and 30-metre water resistance. The source listed publication-era prices of CHF 15,000 for the gold versions and CHF 21,100 for platinum; they are not current price quotes.
Which pick suits which kind of Cartier enthusiast?
- Choose the Tortue as the most relevant pick if you want a manually operated chronograph and a sculptural case, and value the combination of historical form and a monopusher mechanism.
- Consider the Rewind if the appeal is a deliberately unconventional watch: its counterclockwise motion and reversed numerals make it the most conversation-starting design in the group.
- Look at the Dual Time if you need a second time zone with a day/night cue and date, along with a bracelet-and-strap setup. Its reported 100-metre water resistance is also notably higher than the 30 metres reported for the lacquered Santos-Dumont models.
- Consider the lacquered Santos-Dumont if you prefer a slim, time-only watch and want to choose among three color-and-metal pairings rather than add a complication.
