Its defining feature remains the way the metal bracelet flows into the rectangular case. The reported collection spans small, medium and large steel models, plus small and medium yellow-gold versions, with diamond-set gold options; movement and specifications depend on size and reference.
What changed in the 2023 Tank Française?
Cartier’s Tank line dates to 1917; the Tank Française joined it in 1996. The 2023 update retained the recognizable rectangular silhouette and integrated-bracelet idea while refining the case and finishing. Launch coverage described a more rounded or slimmer case profile, a revised crown, a brushed dial finish, and bracelet links with alternating polished and satin or brushed surfaces. These are collection-level launch descriptions, not a guarantee that every detail is identical across every reference.

Marie-Laure Cérède, Cartier’s Jewelry and Watchmaking Creation Director, described the design intention as follows in a February 25, 2023 OPENERS article: “The creative philosophy behind the new "Tank Française" is to capture the fundamental form of the watch, simplify its essential lines, and strip away all ornamentation to return to the origin of the legend, much like discovering a beautifully cut gem from its rough state.” Read the OPENERS article.
How the 2023 range differs by size and material
Launch reporting described seven references across steel and yellow gold. The movement changes with size, and the published range includes diamond-set gold versions.

The table summarizes the collection-level 2023 launch descriptions; it is not a complete specification sheet for every individual reference. For the large steel version, the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) reports that caliber 1853 runs at 4 Hz and has a 37-hour power reserve. The Japanese federation’s 2023 model note also identifies a date function for that large version. Those details should not be assumed for the quartz small and medium models. What the small steel WSTA0129 specification sheet says
Cartier’s listing for small steel reference WSTA0129 gives dimensions and features for that watch only. It should not be used as a proxy for a medium, large, gold or diamond-set Française.

An integrated bracelet makes the bracelet part of the Française’s visual design, so sizing is a practical consideration as well as a comfort issue. Cartier’s WSTA0129 page provides bracelet-fit instructions and directs customers who need additional links to contact Cartier. It does not state a service price or turnaround time. Because that guidance appears on the small steel reference listing, confirm the sizing process for the exact model you are considering.
