The Black Bay 58 is 39 mm and rated to 200 m; the no-date Submariner 124060 is 41 mm and rated to 300 m. Here’s what the manufacturer specifications do—and don’t—tell you.

The TUDOR Black Bay 58 reference M7939A1A0NU-0001 and the no-date Rolex Submariner 124060 are both steel dive watches, but they differ in size, water-resistance rating, movement claims and available configuration details. The Black Bay 58 is 39 mm wide and rated to 200 metres; the Submariner is 41 mm wide and rated to 300 metres. Those specifications help frame the choice, but they do not establish which watch will fit better or suit a particular diver.

At a glance: Black Bay 58 vs. Submariner 124060

This comparison is specifically about the TUDOR Black Bay 58 M7939A1A0NU-0001 on its five-link bracelet and the no-date Rolex Submariner reference 124060. Rolex sells a separate Submariner Date with a different calibre; it is not the model compared here. The figures below come from manufacturer material, not hands-on testing or a same-method independent comparison.

Power reserve 65 hours (TUDOR specification) Not stated in the reviewed current-reference brochure
Bracelet and fit details Five-link steel bracelet with TUDOR T-fit clasp; 20 mm lug width Oyster bracelet; clasp-extension measurements are not stated in the reviewed brochure
Price in reviewed material US suggested retail price displayed as $5,350 for this configuration Not stated in the reviewed Rolex brochure

Case size and wrist fit

39 mm versus 41 mm

The Black Bay 58 has the smaller stated diameter, at 39 mm versus 41 mm for the Submariner 124060. Diameter is only one part of how a watch wears: thickness, case shape, lug geometry, bracelet articulation and the wearer’s wrist all matter. The reviewed Rolex brochure does not state the Submariner’s thickness, so a complete thickness comparison cannot be made from these materials.

TUDOR gives a 20 mm lug width for the cited Black Bay 58 configuration. The reviewed Rolex brochure does not provide matching bracelet or clasp-extension measurements, so this specification set cannot settle which bracelet will feel more adjustable or comfortable. Try the exact configuration on your wrist if fit is a deciding factor.

  • Main Material: Stainless Steel
  • Case Size: 39mm Steel Case with Polished and Satin Finish
  • Series: Black Bay 58
  • Dial Hue: Burgundy
  • Movement Type: Manufacture Calibre MT5400-U; Self-winding Mechanical Movement with Bidirectional Rotor System

Water resistance: 200 m and 300 m

TUDOR rates the cited Black Bay 58 to 200 metres (660 feet), while Rolex rates the no-date Submariner 124060 to 300 metres (1,000 feet). These are manufacturer-published ratings. The difference does not, by itself, establish which watch is appropriate for a specific dive plan or how either will perform in an individual’s use; consult the manufacturers’ instructions and follow appropriate dive-watch practices.

Movements and published performance

Black Bay 58: MT5400-U

Submariner 124060: calibre 3230

The no-date Submariner uses Rolex calibre 3230. Rolex states an accuracy of −2/+2 seconds per day after casing. That is a manufacturer-published figure, not a result from a shared real-world test against the TUDOR movement. Rolex distinguishes the no-date Submariner’s calibre 3230 from calibre 3235 in the Submariner Date.

Bracelets, configuration and price

The TUDOR price displayed for the five-link-bracelet reference M7939A1A0NU-0001 is a US suggested retail price of $5,350. The reviewed Rolex brochure does not give a price for the 124060, so it does not support a verified price comparison. Prices and availability vary by market and can change; check current official regional information for both watches before buying.

Configuration matters when comparing listings. Confirm the precise reference, bracelet or strap, clasp, warranty terms, local price and availability. A specification or price for another Black Bay 58 variant, the Submariner Date, or a seller’s listing should not be treated as confirmation for the exact models above.

Which one should you choose?

There is no universal winner established by these specifications. The TUDOR offers the smaller stated diameter and a published thickness, lug width, power reserve and US suggested retail price for the specified configuration. The Rolex has the higher published water-resistance rating and a manufacturer-stated accuracy figure after casing. The available source material does not provide a matched price comparison, a complete fit comparison or a same-method performance test.

  • Choose based on the exact case proportions and bracelet that feel right on your wrist, not diameter alone.
  • Decide how much weight to give the stated water-resistance ratings in light of your actual use and the manufacturers’ guidance.
  • Compare movement information as published by each manufacturer, without treating differently framed claims as a head-to-head test.
  • Verify current local pricing, availability, warranty and the exact reference and bracelet configuration before purchase.

TUDOR says: “The Black Bay 58 is named after the year in which the first TUDOR divers’ watch waterproof to 200 metres was introduced.”
