The steel, no-date TUDOR Black Bay 58 reference M7939A1A0NU-0001 is smaller and less expensive at its US suggested retail price than the Rolex Submariner 124060. The Submariner has a higher published water-resistance rating and a ceramic bezel with a different bracelet-adjustment system. Which makes more sense depends on the size and features you want—not on a claim that one is objectively better.

Yes, by stated case diameter: the cited Black Bay 58 is 39 mm and the Submariner 124060 is 41 mm. TUDOR also lists the Black Bay 58 at 11.7 mm thick, while thickness is not stated in the reviewed Rolex product-page details. Diameter alone does not determine how a watch will sit or feel on a particular wrist, so try both on if fit is a deciding factor.

For a smaller wrist
The Black Bay 58’s smaller stated diameter may be a useful starting point if you prefer a more compact case. It is not proof that it will fit every smaller wrist better: individual wrist shape, bracelet fit and personal preference matter, and no hands-on fit testing is established here.
How much cheaper is the Black Bay 58?
On the manufacturers’ cited US pages, the Black Bay 58’s $5,350 suggested retail price is $4,700 below the Submariner’s $10,050 listed price. Those figures compare these exact references and are manufacturer-listed prices, not a survey of transaction prices. They do not establish current availability, wait times, resale value or what a buyer will actually pay.

What do the water resistance and movement figures mean?
Water resistance
TUDOR rates this Black Bay 58 to 200 m (660 ft), while Rolex rates the Submariner 124060 to 300 m (1,000 ft). The Submariner therefore has the higher published rating. That specification difference does not by itself show a meaningful advantage for ordinary use, nor is it an independent comparative test.

TUDOR lists a 65-hour reserve for the MT5400-U and identifies the watch as COSC- and METAS-certified. Rolex lists approximately 70 hours for calibre 3230 and identifies the Submariner as a Superlative Chronometer. The stated reserves are close, and the named certification systems differ; the manufacturer specifications alone do not establish that one watch performs better in an independent head-to-head test.

- Main Material: Stainless Steel
- Case Size: 39mm Steel Case with Polished and Satin Finish
- Series: Black Bay 58
- Dial Hue: Burgundy
- Movement Type: Manufacture Calibre MT5400-U; Self-winding Mechanical Movement with Bidirectional Rotor System
Rolex Newsroom says that in 2026 its Superlative Chronometer certification was expanded to seven testing criteria. That is Rolex’s description of its certification, not a direct comparison with TUDOR’s COSC and METAS certifications.
How do the bezel and bracelet differ?
Bezel
The cited Black Bay 58 uses a unidirectional bezel with a steel bezel and anodised aluminium insert. The Submariner uses a unidirectional bezel with a black Cerachrom ceramic insert. These are different materials and design choices; the published specifications do not establish how either will look or wear after years of use.

Bracelet adjustment
The Black Bay 58 reference comes on a three-link steel bracelet with TUDOR’s T-fit clasp. The Submariner has an Oystersteel Oyster bracelet, an Oysterlock safety clasp and a Glidelock extension. If clasp adjustment is important to you, compare how each works and feels in person rather than choosing from the feature name alone.

Which one should you choose?
- Consider the Black Bay 58 if you want the smaller stated case diameter, prefer its bezel and bracelet setup, or have a lower manufacturer-listed price as a priority.
- Consider the Submariner 124060 if you prefer its 41 mm case, its published 300 m rating, its Cerachrom bezel, Glidelock extension or Rolex design.
- Try both on if fit and wrist presence are central to the decision. The published dimensions cannot settle comfort or personal preference.
Official product pages do not establish current stock, waiting time, secondary-market price, resale performance, independent service costs or a guaranteed transaction price. TUDOR identifies its figure as suggested retail and notes that prices can change; Rolex directs prospective buyers to an official retailer.
