The Tudor Black Bay 68 is the largest modern member of the Black Bay family: a 43 mm stainless-steel dive watch with 200 m water resistance, Tudor’s manufacture MT5601-U movement, a 70-hour power reserve, and both COSC and METAS Master Chronometer certification. It is a deliberately substantial watch for buyers who want more wrist presence than the Black Bay 54 or Black Bay 58 provide.

The Tudor Black Bay 68 in brief

The Tudor Black Bay 68 is the largest modern member of the Black Bay family: a 43 mm stainless-steel dive watch with 200 m water resistance, Tudor’s manufacture MT5601-U movement, a 70-hour power reserve, and both COSC and METAS Master Chronometer certification. It is not a vintage-sized diver enlarged only for appearance; it is a technically serious, deliberately substantial watch for buyers who want more wrist presence than the Black Bay 54 or Black Bay 58 provide.

As of August 12, 2026, Tudor’s United States collection lists two versions: the blue-dial M7943A1A0NU-0001 and the silver-dial M7943A1A0NU-0002. Both have a United States suggested retail price of $5,475. Tudor notes that prices and model availability can change, so this is a current price reference rather than a permanent MSRP.

Why is it called the Black Bay 68?

The “68” is a historical reference, not a claim that this exact 43 mm watch existed in 1968. Tudor connects the name to the development of its distinctive Snowflake hour hand in 1968; the hand appeared in the brand’s catalogue shortly afterward, in 1969.

  • Case Type: 41mm Diver-style stainless steel case with silver rotating bezel - Capable of withstanding pressures of up to 20 bar (200 m/660 ft), and equipped with a screw-down crown, this watch offers optimal protection against water. Case Thickness: 11.7mm
  • Dial: Blue with grained finish, polished nickelled indexes coated with white Super-LumiNova, day and date at 3 o’clock. Sand-blasted flange with minute indication. Crystal: Sapphire crystal with double sided anti-reflection treatment Crystal: Sapphire crystal with double sided anti-reflection treatmentCrystal: Sapphire crystal with double sided anti-reflection treatment.
  • Band Type: Satin-finished stainless steel bracelet with polished central link. Folding clasp with diving extension and engraved MIDO logo. MIDO quick-change system.

That detail matters because the Snowflake hand is one of the defining visual elements of the modern Black Bay. Its broad, angular shape improves legibility and gives the watch a clear Tudor identity, while the rest of the design retains the familiar Black Bay formula: a vintage-inspired round case, large applied markers, a prominent crown, and a rotating dive bezel.

The result is historically informed rather than historically constructed. The Black Bay 68 borrows the visual language of Tudor’s past but uses a modern movement, sapphire crystal, advanced testing, and contemporary bracelet hardware.

Case, bezel, and dial design

The Black Bay 68’s defining decision is its 43 mm case. Tudor has made the Black Bay architecture larger without giving it a dramatically thicker listed profile: the case is specified at 13.6 mm thick. That does not make it a small watch, but it does help explain why the watch is better understood as a broad, substantial diver than as an unusually tall one.

The stainless-steel case has a screw-down crown engraved with the Tudor rose in relief. The domed sapphire crystal provides modern scratch resistance while preserving some of the domed-glass character associated with older dive watches.

The bezel is a 60-minute unidirectional design, appropriate for timing a dive or any short interval where a one-way rotation is a useful safety feature. Its insert is matte-black aluminum, not ceramic. That distinction is easy to miss in casual product descriptions, but it is important: the aluminum insert supports the Black Bay’s period-inspired aesthetic, while ceramic would generally signal a more overtly modern, scratch-resistant construction.

The blue version uses a domed, sun-brushed Tudor Blue dial with applied hour markers. The alternative is the silver-dial reference, identified in launch coverage as having a sun-brushed silver dial. Both versions use the Snowflake hour hand and the same overall case, movement, bracelet, and price.

Movement and METAS certification

Inside is Tudor’s manufacture calibre MT5601-U, a self-winding mechanical movement with a bidirectional rotor and a stated 70-hour power reserve. In practical terms, a fully wound watch can be removed on Friday and still be running around Monday morning, although actual autonomy depends on how fully the movement was wound and the watch’s condition.

MIDO Ocean Star 39 - Swiss Automatic Watch for Men & Women - 39mm Stainless Steel Case - Blue Dial - Stainless Steel Bracelet - M0269071104101
  • Swiss Made Automatic Watch
  • Movement: Automatic Movement Mido Caliber 72 - With 72 hours of power reserve and nivachron balance spring
  • Case Type: 316L Stainless steel diver style with screw-down crown and unidirectional rotating bezel
  • Case Size: 39mm - Band Width: 20mm - Case Thickness: 10.5mm - Sapphire crystal with double sided anti-reflection treatment
  • Band: Satin-finished stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp with diver’s extension, with polished centre link bevels, MIDO quick-change system. Additional blue rubber strap included.

The movement is both COSC-certified and METAS-certified. Tudor describes the METAS Master Chronometer program as covering precision, magnetic resistance, water resistance, and power reserve. COSC certification is a prerequisite within that framework, and Tudor says the precision assessment covers two temperatures, six positions, and two power-reserve levels.

Independent launch coverage commonly reports a METAS precision tolerance of 0/+5 seconds per day and an operating frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Those figures describe the certification and movement specification; they are not a guarantee that every individual watch will run at exactly the same rate on the wrist. Daily results vary with position, winding state, temperature, shock, and the individual movement.

The stated 15,000-gauss magnetic-resistance capability is more useful as an engineering assurance than as a reason to expect a visible change in ordinary timekeeping. It can matter to owners who work around strong magnetic equipment, but most buyers will experience the certification primarily as confidence in the watch’s testing standard rather than as a feature they actively operate.

How large does the Black Bay 68 wear?

Do not judge this watch by the 43 mm diameter alone. Its 22 mm lugs, bracelet mass, thickness, and lug-to-lug span all contribute to its presence. One hands-on review measured approximately 51.5 mm lug-to-lug and recorded a fully linked bracelet weight of 174 grams. Those are reviewer measurements, not universal Tudor specifications, but they are useful context: this is a serious piece of steel on the wrist.

The Black Bay 68 will likely suit readers who already enjoy large sports watches, have larger wrists, or want a diver that remains visually prominent with casual clothing. It may feel excessive to anyone accustomed to compact field watches, fabric straps, titanium cases, or vintage-diver proportions.

Wrist shape matters as much as circumference. A relatively flat wrist may accommodate the broad lugs more easily than a narrow, rounded wrist of the same measurement. The most reliable test is to assess the lug-to-lug reach and whether the case visibly overhangs the wrist, rather than relying on diameter labels alone.

The T-fit clasp is a genuine ownership advantage

The three-link bracelet combines polished and satin finishes, with smooth side flanks. Unlike some earlier Black Bay bracelets, the Black Bay 68 bracelet does not use faux rivets. That gives it a cleaner, more contemporary appearance and avoids decorative hardware that some wearers find distracting.

Its T-fit clasp allows rapid adjustment without removing bracelet links. A hands-on review describes up to approximately 7 mm of adjustment. That is valuable when a wrist expands in warm weather or contracts during a cooler day. It also makes the watch easier to fine-tune after the initial link sizing.

T-fit is not a replacement for proper bracelet sizing. The removable links still need to be adjusted correctly, and owners should use an experienced watchmaker or retailer if they are concerned about scratching the case or bracelet. The clasp’s quick adjustment is best understood as a day-to-day comfort feature.

Black Bay 68 vs. Black Bay 58 vs. Black Bay 54

The most useful comparison is not which model is “best.” It is which Black Bay proportion matches your wrist and priorities.

Model What it emphasizes Best fit for
Black Bay 68 43 mm case, strong wrist presence, modern technical specification Buyers who want a large, substantial bracelet diver
Black Bay 58 39 mm case and a balanced vintage-diver proportion Those seeking a versatile middle ground
Black Bay 54 37 mm case and the most compact, historically restrained format Those prioritizing discreet wear and smaller proportions

The Black Bay 68 is not simply a Black Bay 58 with extra diameter. The larger case changes the visual balance, the bracelet feels more substantial, and the watch occupies more space beneath a cuff. Conversely, the smaller models are not automatically better for every wrist: some owners find a 43 mm diver more proportionate or simply prefer the authority of a larger case.

If you are undecided, compare the models by three questions: does the lug-to-lug distance stay within your wrist’s top surface, do you want the watch to disappear under a sleeve or announce itself, and do you prefer a modern substantial object or a compact vintage-style diver?

Blue or silver dial?

The two currently listed U.S. references share the same $5,475 suggested retail price, so the choice is primarily visual.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Blue: the more recognizably Tudor option, with a domed sun-brushed Tudor Blue dial that emphasizes the brand’s modern identity.
  • Silver: a quieter, more neutral alternative. Its sun-brushed finish can make the large case feel less visually uniform than the blue version while remaining distinctive.

Neither dial changes the movement, water resistance, bezel, bracelet, or certification. Consider the silver version if you want the case and Snowflake hand to do more of the visual work; choose blue if the dial itself should be the focal point.

Price, availability, and where to buy

Tudor’s current United States collection lists both Black Bay 68 references at a $5,475 suggested retail price. The watch was introduced as part of Tudor’s 2025 releases, so it should not be described as a model “new for 2026.” A historical launch price of €4,770 was reported for Europe in 2025; that figure should not be substituted for current U.S. pricing.

For a new watch with clear provenance, use a Tudor Official Retailer and confirm the exact reference, warranty documentation, delivery terms, and return policy. Retailer stock can vary between the blue M7943A1A0NU-0001 and silver M7943A1A0NU-0002.

Marketplace and grey-market listings require more scrutiny. Tudor’s official pages do not establish that a particular Amazon listing is genuine, authorized, correctly priced, or covered by the same warranty terms as an Official Retailer. If you shop for a Tudor Black Bay 68 through a marketplace, verify the seller’s identity, serial documentation, warranty position, return window, and whether the watch is new, pre-owned, or simply described as such. A low price is not by itself evidence of a good deal.

Ownership and care

The 200 m rating, screw-down crown, sapphire crystal, and unidirectional bezel make the Black Bay 68 capable of genuine water-oriented use, but water resistance is not permanent. Gaskets age, crowns can be left improperly secured, and impacts can compromise seals. Have water resistance checked at appropriate service intervals, particularly before swimming or diving after the watch has been opened or serviced.

For routine exterior care, rinse salt or chlorine residue with clean water when appropriate, dry the watch with a soft cloth, and avoid abrasive chemicals. A microfiber watch-cleaning cloth is suitable for fingerprints and surface moisture, but it is not maintenance equipment and cannot replace professional servicing or water-resistance testing.

The fully linked bracelet’s reported 174-gram weight also makes secure storage worthwhile when travelling. Owners who carry the watch separately may consider a padded watch travel case or watch roll, checking its internal dimensions and clasp clearance before buying. Avoid placing the watch loose against hard objects or allowing the bracelet to swing against the case.

Although the lugs are 22 mm wide, do not assume that every 22 mm spring bar, strap, or bracelet accessory is safe or compatible. The supplied bracelet is part of the watch’s fit and finish, and inexperienced owners can scratch a case or damage a lug while attempting changes. A professional is the safer choice for bracelet work on a high-value watch.

Strengths and drawbacks

Reasons to buy

  • It offers a genuinely large Black Bay format rather than another compact vintage-style diver.
  • 200 m water resistance, a screw-down crown, sapphire crystal, and a 60-minute unidirectional bezel provide a credible tool-watch specification.
  • The MT5601-U combines a 70-hour reserve with COSC and METAS certification.
  • The stated 15,000-gauss resistance and METAS testing add meaningful engineering assurance.
  • The T-fit clasp makes daily comfort adjustments simple.
  • The blue and silver versions share the same current U.S. suggested retail price.

Reasons to hesitate

  • At 43 mm and 13.6 mm thick, it is a poor match for buyers specifically seeking a compact or discreet diver.
  • The broad case and heavy bracelet may feel tiring to wear, especially for those used to smaller or lighter watches.
  • The aluminum bezel insert is less scratch-resistant than a ceramic insert, although it supports the watch’s period-oriented character.
  • METAS certification is valuable assurance, but it does not mean every watch will keep exactly the same daily rate in normal use.
  • The $5,475 price is a suggested retail price that can change and should be distinguished from pre-owned or grey-market prices.

Who should buy the Tudor Black Bay 68?

Buy the Black Bay 68 if you want Tudor’s Snowflake-hand design, a modern movement, serious water resistance, and a large bracelet watch with unmistakable wrist presence. It is especially compelling for buyers who find the Black Bay 58 too restrained but still want the Black Bay family’s vintage-inspired silhouette.

Choose the Black Bay 58 or Black Bay 54 instead if compact dimensions, lower bracelet weight, or easy under-cuff wear matter more than size. The Black Bay 68 is a focused choice, not a universally versatile one: its appeal depends on genuinely wanting a 43 mm watch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the Tudor Black Bay 68?

The Tudor Black Bay 68 is 43 mm in diameter, 13.6 mm thick according to Tudor’s listed specification, and uses 22 mm lugs. A hands-on review measured approximately 51.5 mm lug-to-lug, though that is a reviewer measurement rather than an official universal dimension.

How much does the Tudor Black Bay 68 cost?

As of August 12, 2026, Tudor’s United States collection lists both the blue M7943A1A0NU-0001 and silver M7943A1A0NU-0002 at a $5,475 suggested retail price. Prices and availability can change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the Black Bay 68 have a ceramic bezel?

No. Tudor’s current specification identifies the Black Bay 68 bezel insert as matte-black aluminum, not ceramic.

What movement is in the Tudor Black Bay 68?

The Black Bay 68 uses Tudor manufacture calibre MT5601-U, with a 70-hour power reserve and both COSC and METAS Master Chronometer certification. Tudor states that the watch is designed to function in magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.

Is the Tudor Black Bay 68 suitable for a small wrist?

It is best suited to readers who want a large, substantial sports watch. Its 43 mm case, broad lugs, and heavy steel bracelet may be too prominent for anyone seeking a compact or discreet diver; the Black Bay 58 and Black Bay 54 are smaller alternatives.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Tudor Black Bay 68 is a technically modern, 43 mm Black Bay for buyers who want maximum family resemblance with considerably more physical presence. Its METAS-certified MT5601-U movement, 70-hour reserve, 200 m water resistance, and T-fit clasp are substantial strengths. The main question is fit: if you want a compact vintage diver, look at the Black Bay 54 or 58; if you want a large, capable Tudor diver, the Black Bay 68 is the model built for that brief.
