Tudor North Flag vs. 2026 Northflag: What Changed and What to Check Before Buying

“Tudor North Flag” can mean two different watches: the original 2015 reference 91210N, known for debuting Tudor’s first manufacture movement and its dial-side power-reserve display, or the 2026 Northflag, a new-design GMT with Master Chronometer certification. The generations share a name, but not a movement or feature set.

Why the original North Flag mattered

Introduced in 2015, the North Flag was the first Tudor model fitted with the brand’s first manufacture calibre, MT5621. Its self-winding movement displayed the power reserve on the dial alongside the time and date—an unusual feature for the model and a defining part of its identity. Launch coverage reported an approximately 70-hour reserve, a silicon balance spring and COSC chronometer certification. Hodinkee’s 2015 introduction covers the original launch and movement.

Tudor’s account of the name connects “North” with the British North Greenland Expedition and identifies the 1973 Ranger II as inspiration for the design. That is brand-stated lineage, not evidence that the modern watch reproduces an expedition watch. The original model is reported to have left the line around 2021; that discontinuation timing comes from retrospective industry coverage rather than an official announcement. Hodinkee’s retrospective and Teddy Baldassarre’s overview discuss its run.

What is different about the 2026 Northflag?

Tudor brought the Northflag name back in 2026, but describes the watch as having a new design and GMT function, not as a straightforward reissue. The current reference, M9140G1A0U-0001, replaces the original’s power-reserve display with a GMT complication and uses calibre MT5652-U. Tudor specifies a 65-hour power reserve and COSC and METAS certification, described by the brand as Master Chronometer certification. Tudor’s Northflag family listing and 2026 announcement present the returned model.

The reserve figures refer to different movements and sources: the original’s approximate figure is from contemporary reporting, while the returned model’s figure is a current manufacturer specification. They are not a head-to-head test of performance.

2026 Northflag specifications to check

Tudor’s official reference page lists a 40 mm stainless-steel case, 12.7 mm thickness and 100 m water resistance. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements or test results. The watch has a fixed steel bezel, domed sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and transparent caseback. Its integrated steel bracelet uses a two-link design and a tool-free T-fit clasp; Tudor says the clasp provides five positions across an 8 mm adjustment window. The M9140G1A0U-0001 product page lists the reference’s specifications.

  • 41mm steel case with polished and satin finish
  • Bidirectional rotatable bezel in steel with 24-hour graduated anodised aluminium disc
  • Self-winding mechanical movement with 70 hour power reserve

The stated water resistance is a product rating, not a promise about the condition of a particular pre-owned watch. If considering a used example, ask the seller about its service history and water-resistance testing rather than assuming the original rating still applies.

Which generation should you look for?

Choose the original if you want its defining display

The 91210N is the version to seek if the MT5621 and its visible power-reserve indicator are the reason you are interested in the North Flag. Because it is reported discontinued, availability depends on the pre-owned market; no current inventory or second-hand price is established here.

Choose the 2026 model if you want a GMT

The returned Northflag is the relevant version if you want a second time-zone function, current catalog availability through Tudor’s listed range, and the brand’s COSC-and-METAS certification claim. It has a new design and a different movement, so treat it as a distinct generation rather than assuming it is the 2015 watch with a minor update.
