The standard 42 mm Pelagos is the choice for the deeper published water-resistance rating and a conventional dive-watch setup. The Marine Nationale Pelagos FXD is built around fixed strap bars and a specialized bezel for staged underwater navigation. If “Pelagos” means the smaller Pelagos 39, that is a third, distinct option: a 39 mm conventional diver with a 200 m rating. Decide by reference, not just by the Pelagos name.
First, define which Pelagos you mean
TUDOR’s Pelagos range includes the standard 42 mm Pelagos, the 39 mm Pelagos 39, and several FXD models. The comparison below focuses on the original Marine Nationale FXD dive model, not every watch carrying the FXD name. FXD also includes a GMT model for tracking Zulu time and additional time zones, as well as a cycling-themed Chrono. Their functions and intended uses differ, so check the exact reference and complication before comparing specifications. TUDOR’s Pelagos collection and FXD collection show the range.

Choose by the job the watch should do
Pick the standard Pelagos 42 mm for a conventional diver and the highest stated rating
The standard Pelagos combines a unidirectional 60-minute bezel with a stated 500 m water-resistance rating and a helium escape valve. Its titanium bracelet has an extension system. Of the three cited models, it is the clearest fit if you want a conventional dive-watch layout and prioritize the highest published depth rating.

- Display Type: Analog
- Item Shape: Round
A rating is a specification, not a reason to treat a watch as maintenance-free diving equipment. Follow TUDOR’s care guidance and have the watch checked as appropriate for its condition and use.
Pick the Marine Nationale FXD for its fixed-bar construction and specialized bezel
The original Marine Nationale FXD is a 42 mm titanium watch with strap bars fixed into the case, a 200 m rating, and a bidirectional bezel graduated retrograde from 60 to 0. TUDOR describes that bezel as intended for underwater navigation by successive stages. It is not the same timing layout as the standard Pelagos’s unidirectional elapsed-time bezel.
TUDOR states that this FXD bezel does not correspond to ISO 6425:2018’s divers’ watch standard because it is designed for that specific navigation technique. This caveat concerns the bezel on the Marine Nationale model discussed here; it should not be generalized to every FXD variant.

Pick the Pelagos 39 for a smaller case and conventional bezel
The Pelagos 39 measures 39 mm across and 11.8 mm thick, with a 200 m rating and a unidirectional bezel. It offers a more compact set of stated dimensions than either 42 mm model while retaining a conventional elapsed-time bezel. The cited reference comes with a titanium bracelet and black rubber strap.
Consider fit and strap adjustment
Case diameter is only one part of how a watch wears. Thickness, bracelet adjustment, strap choice, and the shape of your wrist all matter; these specifications alone do not establish which model will feel more comfortable on a particular wrist.
- Pelagos 39: TUDOR’s T-fit clasp adjusts without tools across five positions, with an 8 mm adjustment window. The bracelet also has a 25 mm diver extension; the supplied rubber strap has an extension. Details are on TUDOR’s Pelagos 39 feature page.
- Standard Pelagos: the cited 42 mm model is 14.3 mm thick and has a titanium bracelet with an extension system.
- Marine Nationale FXD: the cited watch is approximately 12.8 mm thick. Because its strap bars are fixed, do not assume that an ordinary spring-bar strap will fit. Check compatibility for the exact reference before buying a replacement.
For any model, confirm the exact strap and bracelet included with the reference and in your sales region. FXD configurations vary; some references list an additional rubber strap.

What the guarantee and included straps mean
TUDOR’s current product pages describe a five-year transferable guarantee without registration or periodic maintenance checks. The cited Pelagos 39 includes a titanium bracelet and black rubber strap. FXD strap contents depend on the reference; fabric straps are part of the line, and some references list an additional rubber strap. Verify the box contents for the precise model and sales region before purchase.
Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- Choose the standard 42 mm Pelagos if you want a unidirectional 60-minute dive bezel, a helium escape valve, and the highest stated water-resistance rating among these three cited models.
- Choose the Marine Nationale FXD if its fixed strap bars and successive-stage navigation bezel are the features you want, rather than a conventional unidirectional dive bezel.
- Choose the Pelagos 39 if 39 mm dimensions and a conventional diver layout are the priority.
- Before comparing listings, match the exact reference, bezel, movement, bracelet or strap package, and local price.
