These two Senator Excellence watches share a 100-hour power reserve and a 5-bar water-resistance rating, but they make different choices about size, material and complication. The 42 mm stainless-steel Perpetual Calendar, ref. 1-36-12-03-02-64, adds day, month and leap-year displays to its panoramic date and moon phase. The 40 mm 18K red-gold Panorama Date Moon Phase, ref. 1-36-24-02-05-62, keeps the display to date and moon phase.

Which one has more complications?
Perpetual Calendar: more information on the dial
The Perpetual Calendar is the more information-dense of the pair. Alongside the time, panoramic date and moon phase, it displays the day, month and leap-year indication. Fratello reports that its calendar is accurate until 2100 and that three correctors on the case flank are used for setting. It is the more involved choice for someone who values a full calendar display, though the additional indications make the dial busier.
Panorama Date Moon Phase: a simpler display
The red-gold model limits its calendar information to the panoramic date, paired with a moon-phase display. Fratello describes its dial as more restrained. Choose it if that simpler arrangement and precious-metal case appeal more than the Perpetual Calendar’s extra indications.

- Dial Diameter: 42mm

- Movement Type: Automatic 36-03
- Strap: Louisiana Alligator Leather (Black)
- Power Reserve: 100 Hours
Case size, material and wear
The steel Perpetual Calendar measures 42 mm across and 12.8 mm thick; the red-gold Moon Phase is 40 mm across and 12.2 mm thick. Both have a reported 49.2 mm lug-to-lug measurement, so the smaller diameter does not mean a shorter span across the wrist. The Moon Phase is thinner by 0.6 mm, while the Perpetual Calendar offers the more compact precious-metal alternative only if you prefer steel: the actual red-gold watch is the 40 mm model.
Both cases are rated to 5 bar, or 50 m, in the cited review. That is the stated water-resistance rating, not a recommendation to use a complicated dress watch for swimming or diving.

Each watch uses an automatic manufacture movement from Glashütte Original’s Calibre 36 family, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a stated 100-hour power reserve. Fratello reports a silicon balance spring and adjustment to six positions for both. Its technical tables list a 21K gold rotor in each, with 49 jewels for Calibre 36-12 and 43 jewels for Calibre 36-24.
The reserve, frequency, lug-to-lug length and water-resistance rating are the same in the review’s specifications. They are useful shared traits, not deciding differences between these two references.

What the 2024 prices do—and do not—tell you
Fratello reported a price of €24,500 for the Perpetual Calendar in 2024. For the red-gold Moon Phase, it reported €25,000 with a folding clasp or €22,600 with a pin buckle. These are historical figures from the article, not current quotes or confirmed offers. Current pricing and availability for these exact references are not established here; contact Glashütte Original or an authorized retailer for a present-day quote.
Straps and related references
Do not infer strap fit from a nearby Senator Excellence model. Glashütte Original’s current pages list a 20 mm end-link width for the 40 mm steel Panorama Date Moon Phase ref. 1-36-24-02-02-64 and 21 mm for the 42 mm steel ref. 1-36-04-05-02-31. Those are different references from the two watches compared here, so their measurements do not establish compatibility.
The manufacturer says straps and bracelets can be purchased separately, but exact fit for the two references in this comparison is not confirmed by those related product pages. Before ordering an accessory, verify the exact reference, lug or end-link dimensions, fastening arrangement and clasp with the manufacturer or retailer.
