Certina announced two matte-case DS-1 Big Date watches in 2025: an all-black PVD version and a night-blue version with gold-toned details and a matching leather strap. Both are described with a 41 mm stainless-steel case and the Powermatic 80.651 automatic movement. The black watch has a published reference and detailed specifications; the blue-and-gold model’s exact reference and full specifications are not established in Certina’s launch material.
What are the two new Certina DS-1 Big Date watches?
Certina presented the pair in a collection article dated 24 April 2025 and a press page dated 9 April 2025. The contrast is primarily visual: one uses an all-black PVD treatment, while the other combines a night-blue look with gold-toned details and a matching leather strap.
The launch article describes both watches with a 41 mm case made of 316L stainless steel, matte PVD coating, a sunray-brushed, satin-finished dial and a sapphire crystal caseback. Certina places the Big Date display at 6 o’clock. Certina’s collection article and press page are the sources for the launch description.
How do the black and blue-and-gold versions differ?
| Detail | All-black version | Night-blue and gold-toned version |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | All-black PVD treatment | Night blue with gold-toned details |
| Strap or bracelet | PVD-coated steel bracelet, according to the official product page | Matching leather strap, according to the launch description |
| Official reference | C029.426.33.051.00 | Not stated in the launch article or press page |
| Full specifications and current status | The official product page lists dimensions and water resistance and currently says the product is no longer available | Not stated in the launch materials |
The material available from Certina supports comparing the color treatment and the black model’s bracelet with the blue-and-gold model’s leather strap. It does not establish a complete specification comparison between the two.

What movement and date display do they use?
Certina names the Powermatic 80.651 automatic movement and an 80-hour power reserve for the launch watches. The brand says the movement uses a Nivachron balance spring, designed to resist magnetic fields, temperature changes and shocks. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance-test results.
The Big Date is positioned at 6 o’clock. Certina says it uses separate discs for the tens and units. The company describes its DS, or Double Security, construction as enhancing shock and water resistance; this wording should be read as a manufacturer claim rather than a verified test outcome. Certina’s article calls the display a practical and design feature: “The Big Date complication at 6 o’clock brings both style and function to the DS-1.”

What is confirmed about the black model’s specifications?
Certina’s product page identifies the all-black watch as reference C029.426.33.051.00. Its listed specifications are:
- Case diameter: 41.00 mm
- Case height: 11.90 mm

These are values published by Certina on the black model’s product page, which currently labels the product “This product is no longer available.” The page’s dimensions and water-resistance rating apply to this black reference; the launch material does not establish that they also apply to the blue-and-gold watch.

What is not confirmed about the blue-and-gold watch?
Certina’s launch article and press page describe the blue-and-gold appearance and matching leather strap but do not provide an exact reference or a complete specification sheet for that version. They do not establish its dimensions, water-resistance rating, live availability or price. The black model’s reference and product-page details should not be used as substitutes.
Are the watches available, and what do they cost?
The black model’s official product page currently says it is no longer available. That status is specific to Certina’s page and does not confirm whether a retailer has stock. The launch materials provide no current price for either variant, and they do not establish current availability for the blue-and-gold version. For a purchase search, match the exact reference and check the seller’s current stock and market-specific listing.

Why does Certina connect the launch to DS history?
Certina says the DS-1 Big Date first launched in 2019 and frames the 2025 watches around 60 years of DS System innovation. Those dates and the historical framing are the manufacturer’s account, not an independent history of the DS line.
