Universal Genève’s long-anticipated return is no longer just a future announcement: by 2026, the brand had re-entered the market with a broad lineup built around the Polerouter and Compax. The original October 2024 announcement had described autumn 2026 as the planned season for its next release; it did not yet name the watch. The later relaunch was a multi-collection return, not simply one new model.

What Universal Genève announced in October 2024

On October 31, 2024, Time+Tide reported that Universal Genève had unveiled a new website and logo and was targeting autumn 2026 for its next release. The specific watch had not been disclosed. Managing director Gregory Bruttin said the brand intended to build in a modern way while staying true to its heritage. The announcement also promised pre-launch events and timepiece releases, with the Polerouter, Nina Rindt Compax and Eric Clapton Tri-Compax among the historic models highlighted. The Polerouter’s 70th anniversary fell in 2024. Time+Tide’s October 2024 announcement

The phrase “first new release” is best understood as the planned broad return to new collections after a long hiatus, not an absolute claim that no watch appeared in the intervening years. Phillips records a unique Polerouter SAS anniversary special edition in 2024, later auctioned for charity in May 2025. That commemorative piece is distinct from the 2026 collection relaunch. What the 2026 relaunch included

Universal Genève’s current website presents Polerouter, Compax, Cabriolet and Disco Mini collections, alongside Signature editions, Capsule selections and Couture creations. The brand’s Universe page describes four new collections bridging past and present; its home page now shows a wider set of collection labels and subcategories. WatchTime reported on April 24, 2026 that Universal Genève had formally re-entered the market with a broad lineup and newly developed in-house calibers. Its report detailed the Polerouter and Compax. The brand’s other collection labels broaden the relaunch beyond those two core lines, but the specifications and dated prices below are the details reported for the Polerouter and Compax—not universal specifications for every collection or reference. The Compax movement and water-resistance details are also report-level descriptions, so verify the specific reference before relying on them.

Why the Polerouter carries particular weight

Universal Genève dates the Polerouter to 1954 and says Gérald Genta designed it at age 23. The design was made to resist magnetic fields and paid tribute to Scandinavian Airlines’ Copenhagen–Los Angeles flight over the North Pole. The same official history dates the Cabriolet to 1933 and the Compax to 1936. Universal Genève’s history

That history helps explain why the Polerouter is more than one item in a new catalog: it connects the relaunch to a model with a specific aviation and design story. The 2026 versions are contemporary reinterpretations, rather than a claim that the original 1954 watch has simply returned unchanged.

Is the new Polerouter available yet?

Hodinkee reported on May 20, 2026 that reservations for the relaunch were available through its app or Watches of Switzerland for a three-week period. The report said Polerouter deliveries were then expected in autumn and chronographs later. That reservation window has expired, and the dated report does not establish whether those expected deliveries occurred or what stock is available now. Hodinkee’s May 2026 reservation report
