The Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222 in stainless steel is a 2025 reissue of the Maison’s 1977 sports watch, released in its 270th-anniversary year. Reference 4200H/222A-B934 pairs a 37 mm tonneau-shaped case and integrated steel bracelet with a matte blue dial, a slim 7.95 mm profile and a contemporary self-winding movement. Its design recalls the original, but its specifications and price are not identical to the vintage watch.
What is the steel Historiques 222?
Reference 4200H/222A-B934 is the stainless-steel version of the modern Historiques 222. Vacheron Constantin lists a 37 mm case, 7.95 mm thickness and 50 m water resistance on its official product page. The proportions and integrated bracelet place it in the luxury sports-watch category, while the blue dial and relatively restrained thickness give it a more compact presence than many contemporary sports models.
The 222 name refers to the model introduced in 1977 for Vacheron Constantin’s 222nd anniversary. The stainless-steel reissue was presented in 2025, the Maison’s 270th-anniversary year. It followed the 37 mm yellow-gold Historiques reissue introduced in March 2022.
Design and materials
The modern watch has a blue matte-finished dial with a date window at 3 o’clock. Its hands and hour markers are 18K gold and use lime-green Super-LumiNova. A transparent sapphire caseback reveals the movement. The bracelet is stainless steel with polished and satin-finished surfaces, and closes with a triple-folding clasp.

Vacheron Constantin says the reissue retains the historic model’s monobloc tonneau-shaped case, fluted bezel, integrated bracelet and Maltese cross at 5 o’clock. Those are the key visual links to the 1977 design; the brand’s claim of fidelity is a design description, not a claim that the old and new watches share identical construction or specifications.
Movement and specifications
The watch is powered by the self-winding Caliber 2455/2. It displays hours, minutes and date, and includes a balance-stop function. The official specification sheet gives it a 26.2 mm diameter, 3.6 mm thickness, 194 parts and 27 jewels. Its power reserve is 40 hours, and it runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz. The watch is Hallmark of Geneva certified.

How it differs from the 1977 original
The steel Historiques 222 is a contemporary watch, not a reproduction with every original specification carried over. Fratello’s January 2025 comparison describes the original Jumbo as 7 mm thick, water-resistant to 120 m and powered by caliber 1121. The modern steel edition is 7.95 mm thick, rated to 50 m and uses Caliber 2455/2, with a transparent sapphire caseback that shows the movement.
The modern version therefore offers a view of its movement and current movement architecture, while the historical model had greater stated water resistance and a thinner case. The 50 m rating is useful for ordinary exposure to water, but it should not be read as making the 222 equivalent to a dedicated dive watch. Hodinkee’s January 2025 release coverage distinguishes it in this respect from Vacheron Constantin’s more fully sporty Overseas line.

Price and availability
At launch in January 2025, Fratello reported a price of €35,300 and boutique-exclusive availability; Hodinkee’s US-oriented report listed $32,000 and also described the watch as boutique-exclusive. These were contemporaneous reports for different markets, not a currency conversion, and they are not confirmed current prices. Fratello reported that the model was not limited per se.

Who the steel 222 may suit
The steel 222 is worth considering if you want an integrated-bracelet Vacheron Constantin with a clear 1970s design lineage in a 37 mm case. Its slim profile, blue dial and display back make the proposition distinct from a conventional tool watch. The trade-offs are equally specific: the modern watch does not match the original Jumbo’s stated 120 m water resistance, and its launch-era pricing places it firmly in high-end luxury territory.
For historical context, Vacheron Constantin’s heritage page dates the 222 to 1977 and credits its design to Jorg Hysek. The steel model is the later 2025 return of that design in a contemporary execution.
