WatchCharts’ Overseas Market Index was up 9.5% over the year to October 5, 2026, yet remained down 13.8% over three years and 6.9% over five. Those figures describe an index of selected models—not the price performance of every Overseas reference.
What the Overseas market index shows
WatchCharts reported an Overseas Market Index value of $48,300 on October 5, 2026. The index is a secondary-market indicator covering the brand’s top 30 Overseas models, weighted by transaction value; WatchCharts says it rebalances the index each January 1. Its reported changes show how much the conclusion depends on the period selected:

WatchCharts’ index page describes the index as an indicator of secondary-market performance and reports its average market price in USD. The figures are a dated snapshot, not a live offer or an executable price for a particular watch.
Does that mean Overseas prices are now above retail?
No broad conclusion about every Overseas watch follows from the index. A collection index does not compare each reference’s resale price with its retail price, and a collector’s claim that prices are “well over MSRP” is not evidence that all models sell above retail. Asking prices are also not the same as completed transactions.

It therefore cannot establish that a particular Overseas trades above retail, let alone that it will appreciate. Treat speculation as a description of recent price expectations and movement—not proof of investment potential.
Why one Overseas may not follow the index
The Overseas is a varied collection, not a single interchangeable market item. The current Vacheron Constantin US collection page lists 34.5 mm and 41 mm self-winding watches, dual-time models, chronographs, tourbillons and perpetual calendars, with steel, gold, titanium and platinum variants. The collection was reinvented in 2016, and the maker highlights an interchangeable strap and bracelet system.

Those differences matter to resale comparisons. A precious-metal complication watch is not a like-for-like benchmark for a steel time-only model, and generation, dial, production status, condition and completeness can also affect a watch’s market. Wallpaper* reported that the Overseas debuted in 1996, gained integrated-bracelet watches in 2004 and entered its third generation in 2016, including a quick-change strap system. It also reported an anniversary Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin announced September 24, 2026, limited to 200 pieces, in white gold with an azure dial, measuring 8.11 mm thick and using Calibre 1120 QP/1. These are dated reported specifications; consult the maker for current model details.
How to assess a specific Overseas price
For a useful comparison, match the exact reference and production generation rather than relying on a collection average. Check the sale context and watch details together:

- Reference and configuration: match case material, size, complication and dial as closely as possible.
- Condition and service: account for wear, service history and whether the watch is original or has been altered.
- Completeness: note box, papers and the included bracelet or straps; for an interchangeable system, confirm precisely what is included.
- Price evidence: distinguish asking prices from completed sales, and compare the same currency and geography.
- Date and retail basis: use recent observations and, if comparing with retail, match jurisdiction, date and tax treatment.
Without those matches, a high listing or an index movement can create a misleading impression of what a particular Overseas is worth.

The evidence supports a mixed reading: the WatchCharts collection index had risen over the latest year reported, while remaining below its three- and five-year levels. It does not establish that every Overseas reference has rebounded, that a specific watch is above retail, or that resale prices will continue rising. The index is useful context for the collection; a buying or selling decision still requires reference-specific, transaction-based comparisons.
