Vacheron Constantin brought its 270th-anniversary exhibition, “The Quest: 270 years of seeking excellence,” to Machine Hall, a former industrial building in central Sydney. The three-day public event ran from 11 to 13 June 2025, pairing historic watches with contemporary high watchmaking and displays explaining the craft behind them.

When and where was The Quest exhibition in Sydney?

Time+Tide reported that the exhibition was held at Machine Hall, 183–185 Clarence Street, Sydney NSW 2000, from Wednesday 11 June to Friday 13 June 2025. Reported opening hours were 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last entry at 5 p.m. Admission was free, and visitors were asked to register online. These were the event’s published arrangements; the exhibition has ended.

Time+Tide’s event report

How was the exhibition arranged?

Vacheron Constantin used Machine Hall’s high ceilings and open spaces to create a visitor route through four named areas:

  • The Beginning introduced the Maison’s history.
  • Artistic Crafts and Finishes focused on decorative work and finishing.
  • High Watchmaking presented complex watchmaking.
  • The Quest brought the exhibition’s themes together.

The layout made the relationship between heritage, hand-finished artistry and mechanical complexity its central thread. The reported objects were exhibition highlights, not a complete inventory, and the report does not establish that the watches were created specifically for the Sydney installation.

Which watches and displays stood out?

Time+Tide described a mix of historical pieces and contemporary models. Among the named examples were a 1959 ultra-thin “Disco Volante” pocket watch and two 19th-century pocket watches, set alongside recent high-watchmaking creations.

  • Decorative craft: watches from the Métiers d’Art Legend of the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Snake collection showed the Maison’s artistic approach.
  • Complications and modern design: the reported displays included the Traditionnelle Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, both versions of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton, and the Historiques 222.
  • Movement interpretation: a cutaway visualization of the Les Cabinotiers Berkley Grand Complication calibre 3752 offered a way to examine the complexity inside a highly complicated watch.

Taken together, these examples linked the exhibition’s historical objects to the skills involved in decoration, finishing and complicated movement construction.

Why was it called The Quest?

The exhibition marked Vacheron Constantin’s 270th anniversary in 2025. The Maison traces its watchmaking story to Geneva in 1755 and frames its history around high watchmaking, technical innovation and artistry. That anniversary figure is the Maison’s own framing of the milestone.

On its official Quest page, Vacheron Constantin associates François Constantin with the expression “do better if possible, and that is always possible.” The page presents the line as a guiding expression of the Maison; it is not, by itself, independent evidence of the quotation’s historical provenance.

Can you visit the Sydney exhibition now?

No. The Machine Hall exhibition was a temporary event that ended on 13 June 2025. Vacheron Constantin’s official store listing identifies a separate Sydney boutique at 104 King Street; that location is not the exhibition venue and does not mean The Quest is still on display.
