The Vaer G5 Meridian is a 39mm automatic traveler’s GMT: its local hour hand jumps independently in one-hour steps, so you can change local time without stopping the watch or losing the GMT hand’s second-time-zone reference. Vaer’s current product page lists a 45.83mm lug-to-lug length and a 13.06mm thickness with crystal, but its water-resistance claims conflict: the technical specification says 200m, while a sizing paragraph says 15ATM. That discrepancy is worth resolving with Vaer before relying on the watch for water use.
What the G5 Meridian is
Vaer describes the second-generation G5 Meridian as a 1950s-inspired automatic watch assembled in America. The Navy/Black version combines a 24-hour GMT hand and a rotating bezel with a date display. Its central distinction is the Miyota 9075 movement’s independently jumping local hour hand, a traveler-style GMT arrangement rather than a movement where the GMT hand alone jumps. Vaer’s product page and ownership guide identify the movement as a true GMT.

Vaer’s product page gives a movement timing tolerance of -5/+10 seconds per day. Its ownership and operation guides instead state -5/+15 seconds per day, so Vaer’s own published materials do not agree on that figure. The ownership guide also lists 24 jewels. The model-specific operation guide calls the bezel ceramic, unlike the current Navy/Black product specification, which describes brushed stainless steel without specifying a ceramic insert. The exact Navy/Black bezel material therefore is not clear from those descriptions.

How the jumping-hour GMT works
The 24-hour GMT hand can track a second time zone while the main hour hand shows local time. When you travel, adjust the local hour hand by whole-hour increments; the GMT hand and seconds keep running. That makes it practical to move the displayed local time to the destination without resetting the watch’s second-time-zone reference.
- Unscrew the crown. Vaer’s operation guide identifies this as the starting point before winding or setting.
- Wind manually if needed. With the crown unscrewed and pushed in, turn it to wind.
- Set local time and date. Pull the crown to the first position. The local hour hand jumps in either direction, and this position also adjusts the date. The seconds continue running and the GMT hand is not disturbed.
- Set the time and GMT hand. Pull the crown to the second position. The seconds hand stops (hacking) while you set the time and GMT hand.
- Screw the crown down again. Vaer says it must be fully secured before water exposure.

How it wears, including on a smaller wrist
The 39mm diameter alone does not determine fit: the 45.83mm lug-to-lug span and 13.06mm thickness also affect how the case sits and feels. Vaer recommends the 39mm case for wrist sizes from 6.5 to 8.5 inches; that is the brand’s guidance, not an independent fit standard.
Worn & Wound’s reviewer, who said their preferred watch-size range was 38–41mm, found the G5 true to its stated dimensions and considered its thickness acceptable. That personal experience is useful context, not a guarantee that the watch will fit every smaller wrist. If possible, compare its lug-to-lug length and thickness with a watch you already find comfortable.

The reviewer reported receiving an FKM rubber waffle strap and a Jubilee Nodex bracelet. They found the rubber strap comfortable and felt the bracelet widened the watch’s styling range. Vaer specifies interchangeable 20mm straps, so a replacement strap should match that lug width; check spring-bar compatibility, and verify bracelet end-link fit for the exact bracelet and variant.

Vaer’s current Navy/Black product page makes two different claims: its technical specification block says 20ATM (200m), while a later sizing paragraph says 15ATM. Vaer’s ownership guide states 20ATM/200 meters, as does the 2025 launch page’s 20ATM language. The official information is therefore inconsistent, and the discrepancy does not support an unqualified claim about diving suitability.

Vaer’s ownership guide says to secure the screw-down crown fully before water exposure and warns against water or steam exposure while the crown is unsecured. Anyone choosing the watch specifically for swimming or diving should confirm the intended rating and use with Vaer rather than assuming the conflicting figures are interchangeable.
Launch price and availability are historical
Vaer’s launch page listed registration opening on March 21, 2025, early access on March 28 and a public launch on April 4, 2025, at a stated retail price of $849. It said the initial G5 Mk2 release would comprise 300 watches and named the G5 Pacific Steel and green/navy G5 Meridian variants. These are launch-era details, not confirmation of today’s price, stock or availability. Vaer’s launch page records that history.
