In his April 6, 2025 article, Henry Black singled out a 45-7001 as an underrated classic and estimated a condition-dependent secondary-market price of €900–1,500. That is a dated editorial estimate, not a current appraisal or a promise of value.
What makes the 45KS interesting?
KingSeiko.info dates the 45KS family to 1968–1974 and identifies it as a Daini Seikosha product line. Its technical reference table draws primarily on collector Róbert Sipos’s book, rather than Seiko catalog specifications, so its figures are best treated as reference-guide data. The appeal is especially clear in the 45-7001 discussed by Henry Black at Fratello: it is manually wound, has a hacking seconds hand, and runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour. Black gives that example dimensions of 36 mm across by 41 mm long. Its compact footprint and faceted case are part of what makes it stand out, but those dimensions and features describe the 45-7001 example—not every watch called a 45KS. Fratello’s 45KS article
Which 45KS variant are you looking at?
“45KS” covers multiple references, not a single uniform specification. The collector reference lists 45-series and 4502 models, including 45-7000/7001, 45-7010, 45-8000, 45-8010, and corresponding 4502 references. Case sizes and functions vary: listed 45-7000/7001 variants are about 36.5 mm wide, listed 45-8000 variants about 39 mm, and 45-8010 and 4502-8010 chronometer configurations about 37 mm. These are reference-guide figures, not universal measurements for the family. KingSeiko.info’s 45KS reference

Complications also depend on the exact configuration. Some cataloged examples include a date and quickset day; other listed 45-series watches are date-free. Confirm the reference and movement before relying on a seller’s description or assuming that a photograph shows the expected configuration.
What does a 45KS cost?
Henry Black’s April 6, 2025 Fratello article gives a condition-dependent estimate of €900–1,500 for the secondary market. It is an editorial guide, not a completed-sale dataset or appraisal. Fratello’s 45KS article

What to check before buying
- Reference and movement: Check the caseback and movement markings against the claimed reference, then verify whether that configuration should have a date or other function.
- Case condition: Inspect the edges and facets for softened contours or refinishing that may have changed the original lines.
- Originality: Ask about the dial, hands, crown, medallion, and any replacement parts. A seller’s description alone does not establish originality.
- Service and accuracy: Request the service date and documentation, and ask what supports any accuracy claim. A high-beat movement is not a substitute for evidence that the watch is currently in good condition.
- Parts: KingSeiko.info lists crystal and crown replacement part numbers by reference, which may help a watchmaker identify a fit. The listing of a part number does not establish current stock or compatibility with a particular watch. KingSeiko.info’s 45KS reference
Can you wear a vintage 45KS around water?
Do not treat a vintage water-resistance inscription as proof that a decades-old watch is safe for swimming or ocean use. Henry Black’s article specifically cautions against relying on it for ocean use. Ask for the watch’s service history and have a qualified watchmaker assess its condition and water resistance before regular wear around water. Fratello’s 45KS article

The price contrast in Black’s article is part of his value argument: he compares the vintage example with modern King Seiko watches and presents the 45-7001 as a lower-cost way into the design and mechanical character he admires. That comparison is his dated editorial judgment, not a like-for-like specification or value assessment. Seiko’s current KSK product page provides context for a modern King Seiko model, but it does not document the value of vintage 45KS watches. Seiko’s KSK product page
