What the Van der Gang 20052 does
The 20052 brings together time display, a calendar and a chronograph. Van der Gang lists hours, minutes, chronograph, date, weekday and month for both the steel 20052BW-TB and red-gold 20052GW-TRg. The date is indicated by a hand, while the weekday and month appear in apertures, according to the brand’s description of the Original watch reinvented.
That combination defines the watch more clearly than the word “chronograph” alone: it is a multi-function calendar chronograph, with several indications sharing the dial. The manufacturer describes the 20052 as an updated successor to its Original, adding the chronograph to the hand-indicated date, weekday and month displays. Specifications and prices are from Van der Gang’s product pages for the 20052BW-TB and 20052GW-TRg. The price is what the manufacturer listed on the page when checked, not a verified quote for a particular buyer, tax treatment or transaction.
How the dial is organized
The dial has to accommodate the calendar and chronograph indications alongside the main time display. In a 2019 review, Brice Goulard of Monochrome Watches described a peripheral date scale read by a dedicated hand, weekday and month apertures, chronograph counters, mixed dial textures and contrasting hand colors. Goulard judged the dial busy but balanced; that is the reviewer’s aesthetic assessment, not a measured finding about legibility.

The same review described a 41 mm case and curved crystal. Those observations provide useful historical context, but they do not establish current comfort, accuracy or finishing from a hands-on assessment for this article. Steel or red gold: what changes?
The manufacturer-listed movement figures and functions are the same for the two variants in the table. The key documented differences are the case material, price and edition statement: steel for the 20052BW-TB at €9,800, and 18-carat red gold for the 20052GW-TRg at €29,000, with the gold variant limited to 337 pieces.

The full reference suffix matters. Van der Gang also surfaces steel variants with different dial or strap treatments, so the 20052 name by itself does not establish a particular case, dial, strap or price. Nor do the cited pages establish a complete current catalogue, availability or comparative resale value.

Who should consider the 20052?
The 20052 is worth considering if you want a mechanical watch that combines a chronograph with day, date and month indications, and you are comfortable with a dial carrying several scales and displays. The steel and red-gold options make a substantial difference in both material and listed price; the gold edition also has a stated production limit. The available sources establish specifications and design descriptions, but do not establish measured accuracy, independent performance results, or a current resale outlook.
