The Vario SG60 Merlion Trench Watch is a 37mm commemorative edition of Vario’s 1918 Trench design, created for Singapore’s 60th independence anniversary. Its crimson enamel dial, Merlion emblem and numbered caseback distinguish it from standard 1918 Trench models. Vario planned to produce 60 units; a 2026 feature by PEAK Singapore reports that the edition sold out.
What makes the SG60 edition different?
Vario built the SG60 around its 1918 Trench watch, a vintage military-inspired design. The commemorative details are the crimson red enamel dial, Merlion emblem at 12 o’clock and a caseback engraved with “SG60” and the Merlion. Vario said each of the 60 watches would be individually numbered, and that the watches are cased and inspected in Singapore. Vario’s SG60 product page describes the release as a limited edition for Singapore’s 60th year of independence.
The dial also has white Arabic numerals, cathedral-style hands and a subsidiary seconds display at 6. Vario specifies C3 luminous material. A specialist listing instead describes the lume as BGW9, so the manufacturer’s C3 specification is the more defensible one to use. Henki Time’s listing provides the conflicting description.

The case has thick wired lugs, reinforcing the watch’s trench-watch styling. The Miyota 82S5 provides automatic winding alongside hand-winding and hacking seconds, while Vario also lists Côtes de Genève finishing. These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent measurements or performance tests.

How it compares with standard Vario 1918 Trench models
The SG60 keeps the 37mm format but adds commemorative details that Vario said would not appear on later standard versions: the SG60 caseback engraving, embossed Merlion and individual numbering. It also has the edition’s crimson dial and black bund strap. Vario said standard 1918 Trench models would be offered in 37mm and 40mm, but their current availability and specifications should be checked separately.
The comparison is therefore mainly about identity and size choice, not evidence of a different movement platform: Vario describes the SG60 as built on the 1918 Trench design and specifies an adjusted Miyota 82S5. Do not assume every standard variant shares every SG60 detail, including its dial, strap, water resistance or price.

Release, price and availability
Vario scheduled the SG60 launch for 1 July 2025 at 9pm Singapore time, with deliveries scheduled to begin on 7 July 2025. Its product page listed a US$428 retail price, free worldwide express shipping, a 14-day return policy and a 24-month international watch warranty. Those are terms stated on the product page, not independently verified current checkout terms. PEAK Singapore reported an approximate price of S$600 on 17 July 2025; that is a separately reported local-currency figure, not an exchange-rate conversion.
A 2026 PEAK Singapore feature reports that the limited edition sold out. That report does not establish whether any cancellation, resale or retailer stock is available now. Who is the SG60 Merlion Trench for?
The SG60 is most distinctive for someone who wants a Singapore commemorative watch with recognizable national imagery in a compact, vintage-inspired format. The numbered production run and engraved caseback give it a stronger collector angle than a standard 1918 Trench variant, while the 37mm steel case, mechanical movement and bund strap keep the design rooted in the underlying watch.
For someone choosing primarily on fit, Henki Time lists the case at 10mm thick with 18mm lugs and a 45mm lug-to-lug measurement. Those dimensions come from a specialist listing rather than Vario’s product specifications. The listed 18mm width suggests possible strap alternatives, but confirm compatibility with the watch and bund arrangement before buying a replacement.

Vario founder Ivan Chua described the watch as “more than just a timepiece — it’s a piece of our nation’s history on your wrist,” in a statement quoted by PEAK Singapore on 17 July 2025. That captures the edition’s central appeal: the SG60 is less a separate technical platform than a deliberately localized, individually numbered take on Vario’s Trench design.
