An Angelus caliber 210 chronograph is not automatically a “Minichrono.” That nickname comes from a 2022 Fratello collector study of a smaller subset, not a definitive factory model name. To assess one, compare the movement, case, dial, hands, logo and serial evidence together—and treat any single mismatch or serial number as a clue, not proof of originality.
What are the Angelus SF 210 and the “Minichrono”?
The Angelus SF 210 is described by the 2016 Angelus Collector’s Guide as a 14-line movement measuring 32.8 mm, introduced around 1935. It was made in both one-pusher and two-pusher forms and has a 45-minute counter; it is inaccurate to assume every SF 210 is a two-pusher movement. The guide says Angelus advertised two-pusher chronographs from about 1935, likely including an improved SF 210 with a blocking lever intended to make stopping the seconds hand more precise.
“Minichrono” is the name used by Balazs Ferenczi in a 2022 Fratello study for a particular group of smaller Angelus chronographs. It is useful shorthand for discussing the examples in that study, but it should not be treated as a confirmed factory designation or applied to every watch with an SF 210 inside.
How can I identify the Minichrono pattern?
The Fratello article systematized more than 60 examples in the author’s own database. Its measurements and observed traits are a collector’s sample, not factory specifications or a census of all production. Compare the watch against the reported pattern, while allowing for variation, service and replacement parts.

Case and dimensions
- Thin-lug: about 35 mm across and 42 mm from lug tip to lug tip.
- Thick-lug: about 36 mm across, with a similar lug-tip-to-lug-tip measurement.
- Both styles are described with press-in case backs. Fixed, welded spring bars are common in the study’s examples; some cases appear to have been converted back to drilled lugs.
In the author’s sample, about 45% were thin-lug and 55% thick-lug. These figures describe only the examples he recorded and do not establish production proportions or rarity.
Dial layout and logo
The study reports black and white dials with a framed Angelus logo below 12, “Antimagnet.” above 6, a 45-minute register at 3, running seconds at 9 and a printed tachymeter scale around the outer edge. It also notes differences between earlier- and later-serial examples in how the sub-dials meet the hour numerals. In the author’s database, 79% of recorded dials were black and 21% white; those percentages are sample results, not a factory-wide ratio.

- Gift Box Included - Receive your watch protected by a nice cloth watch pouch, which comes inside a luxurious box. Perfect to give as a pleasant surprise to a loved one. All package includes a brief description of the watch's history and technical features and the factory warranty.
Ferenczi identifies the sampled logo as the framed D2 first version in the collector guide’s typology, with the upper line of the E bending down. This is a comparison aid rather than a complete factory inspection standard: evaluate the logo alongside the rest of the watch.
Hands
The expected hand arrangement in the study is short, broad pencil-shaped hour and minute hands, blued steel on white dials and gold on black dials, with a stick-shaped running-seconds hand and a small leaf-shaped 45-minute counter hand. The author also saw variants and apparent replacements, including hands associated with caliber 215 watches. A hand mismatch merits investigation, but by itself does not prove a watch is counterfeit or assembled from unrelated parts.

Case-back inscriptions
The Fratello study records two recurring forms of inside-case-back text, with wording changes across serial batches. The author suggests these differences may help compare examples, but no production rationale or precise dating rule is established. Photograph the inscription and compare it with documented examples; do not infer an exact year from the wording alone.
How can I tell whether an Angelus 210 Minichrono is original?
Start by checking whether the main components tell a consistent story. The smaller subset studied by Fratello is expected to contain an SF 210, but the case, dial, hands and markings also need to be assessed. Similar-looking components can be changed during a watch’s life, and visual consistency alone cannot authenticate a watch.

- Confirm the movement identity. Ask for clear photographs of the movement and have a qualified watchmaker verify whether it is an SF 210 or SF 215. The movements are similar in size and function, and the study says a 215 can be substituted into a compatible case.
- Inspect movement markings. The sampled SF 210 movements usually have “Angelus” written in an arc on the bridge, though the author notes some early examples may have unmarked bridges. Treat the marking as supporting evidence, not a standalone test.
- Compare the dial and hands as a set. Check the register positions, logo, tachymeter, dial color and hand shapes against the reported pattern. Look for mismatches, but account for possible repairs or replacements rather than declaring a watch false on appearance alone.
- Record case details and serials. Note the case dimensions, lug construction, case-back inscription and serial. Compare them with reliable examples, without turning any one trait into a definitive date or authenticity verdict.
- Request an in-person examination before relying on an originality claim. A watchmaker experienced with vintage chronographs can assess the movement, case, hands and signs of prior service. For a purchase, establish inspection and return terms before committing.
The Fratello author considers a 215 in this Minichrono subset a possible movement change or sign of a put-together watch, and reports examples he regarded as questionable. That observation does not prove that every 215-equipped watch is fraudulent: the movement may have been replaced during service. Make a strong originality claim only after the particular watch has been examined.

The 2016 Angelus Collector’s Guide gives 168174–193684 as the SF 210 serial range known at the time. It also says SF 215 watches were made while the final SF 210 watches were still being sold, and gives 168174 as the SF 215 starting serial. The overlapping sequence means a serial number alone cannot prove which movement originally left with a case or establish an exact production date.

The Fratello study reports Minichrono examples around 182xxx–196xxx and places the group probably from the second half of the 1930s through the early 1940s, while explicitly presenting its findings as provisional. Its cited examples extend beyond the guide’s stated known SF 210 range. These are different bodies of evidence and should not be silently combined into a single definitive serial range. A separate secondary historical article published circa 2025 also places the SF 210 around 1935 and says it remained in production at least through 1942; that is historical corroboration, not an Angelus factory record.
For a particular watch, use serials as one element alongside movement identity, case and dial features, service history, and any trustworthy paperwork. Neither the range nor an inscription provides a precise date on its own.
What is an Angelus 210 chronograph worth?
The available auction example is a single historical reference, not a current valuation. Azca Auctions listed a stainless-steel, black-dial Minichrono 210, described as circa late 1930s with a 35 mm case and manual caliber 210. The listing ended on 7 January 2025 unsold against an estimate of £1,000–£1,500. An unsold estimate does not establish a realized price, a typical market range or a premium for a particular dial or case style.
To compare actual offers or sales, assess the individual watch’s movement identity, originality, dial and hand condition, case integrity, service documentation and the seller’s inspection and return terms. Seek recent comparable sales and an in-person condition assessment before making a valuation claim.
Quick Recap
What to verify before buying
- Get photographs of the movement, dial, case sides, lugs and inside case back; ask whether the watch has been opened or serviced recently.
- Check whether the movement is identified as SF 210 or SF 215, and whether the seller’s originality description is supported by inspection.
- Ask what is known about replacement hands, dial work, case modifications and prior repairs.
- Confirm the seller’s return or inspection terms, especially if movement access or independent examination is needed.
- If the watch has fixed welded bars, verify the attachment type and strap width before ordering a strap; compatibility depends on the specific case.
