What is Château de Môtiers?
Château de Môtiers is a classified historical monument overlooking Môtiers, Fleurier, and the Val-de-Travers in Switzerland. BOVET dates the building to the early 14th century and describes its 5,800-square-metre site as having been remodeled after the company reacquired it. The area figure—about 62,000 square feet—comes from BOVET’s 2021 account of the château and its restoration.
The château’s history connects it to the Bovet family before its present role with the watchmaker. According to BOVET’s historical account, Henri-François Dubois-Bovet acquired the property after a state sale in 1835; Bovet descendants donated it to the Canton of Neuchâtel in 1957; and the canton offered it to BOVET in 2006. This chronology is the brand’s account of the site’s history.

How did the château become part of BOVET?
BOVET was founded in Fleurier in 1822, close to Môtiers. The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie independently records that Pascal Raffy acquired Château de Môtiers in 2006 and established BOVET workshops there, alongside his acquisition of the Dimier 1738 manufacture. The château’s return to the brand therefore linked BOVET’s regional origins with a contemporary manufacturing base.
BOVET describes the restored château as serving three connected purposes: watchmaking, preservation of the historic site, and hospitality for guests. It is not accurate, however, to describe it as the location of every BOVET craft or production step. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry places BOVET’s engraving workshop in Tramelan.

What makes the château’s watchmaking story distinctive?
The site frames a useful contrast between heritage and the changing forms of a modern timepiece. BOVET introduced its Amadeo system in 2010, describing it as a way to convert a timepiece between wristwatch, pocket watch, table clock, and necklace forms. That versatility echoes an older BOVET idea: the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie records the brand’s earlier chevalet patent for a pocket watch that could also be used as a table clock.
The château is thus more than a historic backdrop in the brand’s account: it is where an old regional watchmaking identity is presented alongside contemporary complications and design. BOVET’s showcase currently highlights the Récital 30 as displaying 25 time zones and the Récital 28 Prowess 1 as limited to eight pieces per year.
