watchOS 11.3 was released on January 27, 2025—it is not an upcoming update. The relatively small point release added the Unity Rhythm watch face and included improvements, bug fixes, and security fixes.
It supports Apple Watch Series 6 and later, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation), and Apple Watch Ultra models. At launch, the normal update path required an iPhone XS or later running the corresponding iOS 18 software, including iOS 18.3 for the 11.3 release. In 2026, owners should install the newest compatible watchOS version offered by Apple rather than specifically seeking 11.3.

What was new in watchOS 11.3?
Unity Rhythm watch face
The headline addition was Apple’s Unity Rhythm watch face, introduced alongside the 2025 Black Unity collection. Its numerals are formed from interwoven red, green, and yellow threads. The design responds to wrist movement using the Apple Watch gyroscope and includes rhythmic chimes at the hour and half-hour.

Improvements, bug fixes, and security updates
Apple’s consumer-facing summary describes watchOS 11.3 as an update containing improvements and bug fixes in addition to the new face. Apple did not present it as a broad redesign or a major feature release.
Apple’s developer release notes identify a HealthKit authorization issue in which permission granted for a data type might not persist. An app could lose access and ask the user to authorize the same data again. This is primarily relevant to health and fitness app developers and users; it is not a new health measurement or tracking feature. Read Apple’s watchOS 11.3 developer release notes.

The update also included security fixes affecting areas such as CoreAudio, CoreMedia, and other system components. Apple’s advisory lists the relevant issues and CVE identifiers where available, including problems involving unexpected app termination or specially crafted media and files. Security advisories describe technical vulnerabilities, not necessarily attacks affecting ordinary users. See Apple’s full watchOS 11.3 security content.

Several prominent watchOS 11 features are often incorrectly attributed to 11.3. They arrived primarily with the major watchOS 11.0 release, not this point update:

This is not a permanent requirement for current updates. Newer iOS and watchOS releases have superseded iOS 18.3, so your iPhone must meet the requirements of the newer watchOS version currently offered for your watch. Apple’s current update instructions explain the pairing requirements.

- Tap Install if an update is available.
- Keep the watch on its charger and connected to Wi-Fi.
If the update does not appear
- Confirm that your watch is in the supported model list.
- Install the required iPhone update first.
- Check Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections.
- Put the watch on its charger and verify that it is charging.
- Restart both the Apple Watch and the paired iPhone.
- On the iPhone, open Apple Watch > My Watch > General > Storage and delete a stuck update file before trying again.
- If the watch is enrolled in beta software, remove the beta profile or return to the appropriate release path before retrying.
These steps address common battery, charger, connectivity, storage, and software-channel problems, but deleting the update file is not guaranteed to fix every failed installation. Do not force-restart the watch during an active installation unless Apple specifically instructs you to do so. See Apple’s complete update-troubleshooting guidance.
Should you install watchOS 11.3?
At launch, generally yes. The update added bug fixes and security fixes, and it was especially appealing to owners who wanted the Unity Rhythm face. It was less compelling as a feature upgrade for anyone satisfied with watchOS 11.2 because it did not introduce a broad redesign.
Today, do not seek out 11.3 specifically. Open Apple Watch > My Watch > General > Software Update, or use Settings > General > Software Update on the watch, and install the newest compatible release Apple offers. watchOS 11.3 was not the final security update in its branch; watchOS 11.3.1 and later releases followed it.
If you own a Series 5 or earlier watch, or a first-generation SE, buying a newer watch may be relevant if you need watchOS 11 compatibility. It is not necessary to buy a new watch merely to obtain one watch face. Check Apple’s current Watch lineup only if your existing hardware is unsupported, aging, damaged, or missing broader features.
