Timex’s guidance varies by model, however: some Marlins are rated 50m, so check your watch’s exact reference or caseback before deciding what it can handle.
What a 30m Timex Marlin can handle
For the specific 30m Marlin Hand-Wound 34mm, reference TW2W44500, Timex says: “This watch is suitable only for hand-washing or accidental splashes of water.” The same product page says not to swim or dive with it and advises against pressing its buttons while it is wet. Timex’s product page for the TW2W44500 gives this model-specific guidance.

In practical terms, ordinary hand-washing or an unexpected splash is the stated limit for that model. Do not interpret “30m” as permission to wear it swimming at a depth of 30 meters. Timex’s rating page describes the activities associated with each rating; it does not say that the number is a literal depth allowance for swimming.

“Timex Marlin” is a collection name, not a single water-resistance specification. The Marlin collection includes both 30m and 50m examples. Confirm the rating for your exact reference, using its caseback or model information, before applying advice for another Marlin.

Timex’s activity guidance by rating
Timex lists these activities for its rating categories. They are the manufacturer’s guidance, not a guarantee for a particular watch regardless of its condition.
| Rating | Activities Timex lists |
|---|---|
| 30m | Washing hands |
| 50m | Washing hands and light swimming |
| 100m | Washing hands, light swimming, snorkeling, poolside diving, and surfing |
| 200m | Washing hands, light swimming, snorkeling, poolside diving, surfing, and recreational scuba diving |
These categories come from Timex’s water-resistance guidance. Follow the listed activity for your watch’s specific rating rather than assuming an unlisted activity is covered.

Buttons and the watch’s condition matter
For the cited 30m Marlin, Timex says not to press buttons while the watch is wet. Its general guidance says not to press buttons underwater unless the watch is rated 200m. These are precautions, not a reason to expose a lower-rated watch to water.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA rating on a product page or caseback does not establish the present condition of an individual watch’s seals. Timex’s published guidance does not determine the age, condition, or seal integrity of your particular Marlin. If you do not know its history or whether it remains in sound condition, avoid water exposure rather than relying on the original rating.
