Why he carries a separate knife
Although the Skeletool includes a blade, the contributor says he keeps a larger dedicated blade for heavier cutting jobs, including plastic banding, rope and boxes. The profile’s editor makes the related observation that different tools can suit different jobs; neither statement is a general safety recommendation.

Does the MDV-106 still cost less than $60?
The Everyday Carry profile reported a displayed price of $52.88 and quoted the contributor calling the watch “less than sixty bucks.” Both figures belong to the article published August 15, 2025; neither establishes the MDV-106-1AV’s price today. No current price for that featured variant is established here.

Casio USA’s surfaced listing for the different MDV106DD-1A1, the stainless-band variant, showed $99.95 and a weight of 145 g. That is a U.S. listing for a different model variant, so it is not a current price for the resin-band MDV-106-1AV or a like-for-like regional price comparison. Casio USA: MDV106DD-1A1.

The profile’s contributor calls the MDV-106 “the best value diver out there,” and the Everyday Carry editor says, “I also agree it’s probably the best value diver out there!” These are attributed opinions, not the findings of a market-wide comparison or independent test. The cited 2025 price cannot establish what the watch costs now, and the available specifications and listings do not provide a basis for ranking it against competing dive watches by overall value.

What can be said specifically is that Casio lists 200-meter water resistance, a 92 g weight and a resin band for the MDV-106-1AV. Whether those features make it a strong value for a particular buyer depends in part on its current price and what comparable watches offer; the sources cited here do not settle that comparison.
