It is a decorative finishing detail, not a separate function of the resonance mechanism. Armin Strom describes hand-finished bevels and polished bridges on specific MFR editions, but the exact components and finish description depend on the reference.
What anglage looks like on an MFR
Anglage is a bevel made at the edge of a component and then polished. Armin Strom’s FAQ defines it as “polished bevelled edges” and identifies it as a hand-applied movement decoration technique. On an MFR, these finished edges are part of the movement’s visible detailing; they do not, by themselves, indicate a separate mechanical function.

The brand’s product descriptions use related terms such as hand-polished bevels, hand-bevelled bridges, chamfers and polished balance bridges. Which parts are specified varies by edition. For example, the MFR Manufacture Edition Blue, MFR Red and MFR Zeitgeist 1665 have edition-specific descriptions. Check the reference and its official product information rather than assuming every MFR has identical finishing on every component.

Why the finish takes time
Armin Strom presents decoration as a deliberate part of its manufacture work. On its Swiss Watch Manufacture page, the brand says decorating a component can take up to ten times longer than producing it. That is the manufacturer’s comparison, not an independently verified industry-wide measurement. The same page attributes this observation to master watchmaker and co-founder Claude Greisler: “Decoration is very emotional, as it adds your signature to every single component.”

Armin Strom also says that 97% of movement parts are developed, produced and carefully hand-finished at its Biel/Bienne manufacture, and that it has more watchmakers working on decoration than assembly. These are the brand’s own published claims, not independent measurements. Its calibres information says the company develops, designs and produces its calibres in-house, while hairsprings and jewels come from specialist Swiss suppliers.
How to check the anglage on your watch
If you are simply curious about the visible finish, a loupe can help you inspect the movement details. That is an optional viewing aid, not a recommendation from Armin Strom and not a way to authenticate the watch or diagnose a defect. Compare what you see with information for your exact reference; a general MFR page cannot establish whether an individual watch is correctly finished.

If an edge appears chipped, uneven or otherwise concerning, do not try to polish the movement yourself. Contact Armin Strom or an authorized retailer for a direct assessment. The brand’s FAQ describes availability through authorized retailers and direct sales for select models and services.
