Fratello On Air’s October 14, 2025 discussion by Michael and Balazs is explicitly speculative: “We don’t have a crystal ball, but we try our hands at being clairvoyant.” It offers opinions and possibilities, not probabilities, sales targets or a forecast model. Read the episode discussion.
What does “fortunes” mean in this discussion?
Here, “fortunes” means each brand’s prospects and position among watch buyers—not investment returns or a prediction of corporate performance. The episode considers a different challenge for each Maison, so the brands cannot be ranked on one shared scale. There are no comparable figures for individual brand sales, profits or market share in the discussion.
One piece of wider context is available for two of the brands. Richemont’s FY2026 Specialist Watchmakers segment, which includes Panerai and Jaeger-LeCoultre alongside six other Maisons, recorded €3,149 million in sales for the year ended March 31, 2026: down 4% at actual exchange rates and up 1% at constant exchange rates. Richemont described performance across the Maisons as mixed and noted notable second-half improvement at Jaeger-LeCoultre, among others. Those are segment-wide results, not individual results for Panerai or Jaeger-LeCoultre, and they do not establish either brand’s five-year outlook. Richemont FY2026 results.
Panerai: can its large tool-watch identity regain appeal?
Fratello’s question is whether big watches could return to the level of desirability associated with the early 2000s. That is a question about taste, not an established market trend or a claim that larger watches are already coming back. Panerai’s challenge is to make its distinctive, substantial tool-watch character feel compelling to buyers over the next five years.

The Luminor offers a concrete example of that identity: Richemont identifies it as Panerai’s icon and lists it alongside Radiomir and Submersible as one of the Maison’s three collections. Panerai’s history includes a Florence founding in 1860, instruments supplied to the Italian Navy beginning in the 1910s, and entry into the civilian market in 1993. That background helps explain the brand’s tool-watch positioning; it does not predict whether a particular size or design will gain popularity. Richemont’s Panerai profile.
Girard-Perregaux: can stronger visibility match the lineup?
The hosts say they like Girard-Perregaux’s current lineup but consider the brand too quiet in its marketing. They suggest the Laureato Fifty might signal a renewed push. This is their assessment, not a verified measure of marketing activity or evidence that visibility will rise. The central question is whether the brand can put its watches in front of more people without losing the appeal that the hosts see in the collection.

Bvlgari: can it create another recognizable watch with broader wearability?
The hosts point to the Octo Finissimo as a design with strong recognition, while noting that some people with smaller wrists find it difficult to wear. The fit observation is subjective, not a universal assessment of the watch. Their forward-looking question is whether Bvlgari can create another modern classic that retains a clear identity while working for a broader range of wearers.
LVMH describes Bvlgari as a Roman high jeweler. Its current profile lists more than 320 boutiques, more than 6,000 employees and six production sites, figures for Bvlgari as a whole rather than for its watch business. They indicate the breadth of the wider Maison, but cannot be used as measures of watch sales or as proof of a future watch hit. LVMH’s Bvlgari profile.

Jaeger-LeCoultre: will its value reputation hold up as prices compete?
The hosts describe a shift in perception: Jaeger-LeCoultre was known to them for strong value, but its prices now place its watches in competition with other brands. This is a judgment about value perception, not a comparison of specific prices or a measured value score. The question for the next five years is whether buyers will continue to see enough distinction in the watches to support that position in a more competitive price context.
Richemont’s FY2026 results offer limited context: the company reported notable second-half improvement at Jaeger-LeCoultre within its Specialist Watchmakers group. The report does not provide a standalone Jaeger-LeCoultre sales figure or establish how buyers perceive its value. Richemont FY2026 results.

Four different tests, no five-year verdict
| Brand | Question raised by the episode | What would make the outlook notable |
|---|---|---|
| Panerai | Can big tool watches regain desirability? | Whether the brand’s bold identity connects with buyers’ changing preferences for watch size. |
| Girard-Perregaux | Can it become more visible? | Whether stronger attention brings the lineup to a wider audience; the hosts point to the Laureato Fifty as a possible signal. |
| Bvlgari | Can it follow the Octo Finissimo with another modern classic? | Whether a new design can be both recognizable and comfortable for a wider range of wrists. |
| Jaeger-LeCoultre | Can its value perception hold at current price levels? | Whether buyers continue to see its watches as compelling against competing brands. |
These are useful lenses for watching the brands, not forecasts of what will happen. The episode supplies no probabilities, five-year financial targets or common performance measure. Its most defensible conclusion is that each Maison faces a distinct test: Panerai’s size-led identity, Girard-Perregaux’s visibility, Bvlgari’s combination of design and wearability, and Jaeger-LeCoultre’s perceived value.
